Skinner Motorsports 2007 season recap
By Gary Thomas
Discovery Bay, CA – January 14, 2008... Discovery Bay’s Jim Skinner finished the 2007 Golden State Challenge Series season with a 17th place finish in the final point standings despite missing 10 races during the year. The Skinner Motorsports team had a fun time even though the season didn’t go as hoped following a blown engine at the Calistoga Speedway in May, which put the team out until late July.
Competing in 15 races during the GSC season, the 1999 NARC rookie of the year tallied four top 10 finishes. His most impressive night came on May 5 at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville. After qualifying eighth quick, Jimbo started third in the dash and held off Brent Kaeding to finish in the second spot and earn a front row starting spot for the 30 lap feature. Jim was holding his own in the top five when contact left him with a broken front end. It put an unfortunate end to a great night but the team continued on with a positive attitude as always.
In mid-March Jim competed at the Placerville Speedway with the Golden State Challenge Series and after drawing the pole for the dash, he was sitting in the second position when he suffered a flat tire forcing him to the rear. In the main event he was able to hold strong and brought home a ninth place finish aboard the WB Equipment, Rider Engines powered Maxim Chassis. Other top 10's for the 73 team came on March 16 at Kings Speedway, April 7 in Antioch and May 25 in Petaluma. The run in Antioch was an eighth place effort and came in front of his hometown crowd.
Early in the year Jim showed a knack for qualifying well. During opening night of the Mini Gold Cup in Chico he scored eighth quick out of 44 cars and backed it up the following night with a 13th quick effort out of 45 cars. Other good qualifying efforts included ninth fastest out of 29 cars in Tulare, ninth fastest out of 27 cars in Placerville and eighth quickest out of 25 cars in Antioch.
Skinner Motorsports would like to thank everybody who helps out including: WB Equipment, Projecttammie.com, Brent Kaeding & Kaeding Performance, BR Motorsports, MAAS Brothers, Pleasanton Metal & Paint and Hoserville for their continued support.
The 73 bunch always have a good time at the races and have an extreme passion for the sport. Each week Jim, his sister Jamie and mom Donna can be seen at the track giving it their all and have been some of the biggest supporters of sprint car racing in California.
For 2008 the Skinner Motorports team plans to run with the Golden State Challenge Series, as well as the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway and the Cotton Classic at the Kings Speedway in Hanford. The team is always looking for new sponsors and marketing partners so if you’d like to get your name on a good looking race car contact [email protected]
