A Few observations at the Chilli Bowl

1. Brady Bacon is really really good, the guy states on his site "he wants to race for a living" no doubt we will see that someday.

2. The Bondio cars , can the innovations stop on such a small car , seem to come up with something new every year, have to stop and just look at the car for about 10 minutes to just to see what is new as well as figure out why he is doing it, guess the new idea this year was the square tank, gets the fuel weight right over the rear, good stuff.

3. With 275 plus entries , LUCK plays more and more of a part in this race, lots of good cars and shoes sitting out the A main out Sat. night.

4.Randy Ward and Tony Bockhoven area really good team of announcers and work well together, They keep you informed about the drivers , situations on the track and all the happenings as well as during those breaks for track prep they interact with the crowd and just have a hell of a time for 4 days. (Both had some classic moments with Section E)

5.See lots of people every year from all over the states, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania , Missouri , Kansas and sat by a couple from Austrailia this year(their first Chilli Bowl) and ya think motors cost a bunch here , in Aussie country a 372(comparable to a alum. 410 here)which is what they run there will run ya a $100,000 dollars, guess that is why they buy american and makes me glad to live in the states.

6. The "Hey" guy in the back of the pace truck was just wrong , ya figure he would get it when people in the stands are booing him and flipping him off as he paces around with the Hooter girls, guess he does not catch enough BS being the Devils Bowl flagman,so he looks for more abuse and comes to the Chilli Bowl..

7.The guys in Section D sure spend a ton of money on beads , and packaged sausages, and etc. their Chilli Bowl budget is at least $2,000 for the week with tickets , motels and all the stuff they buy to throwout every night, Amazing!.

8. Seeing David Jones on Thursday in the Pit Area and seeing all those wings he brought up on top of trailers in the pit area and then seeing the trailer he brought them in, David is multi-talented he not only can type and piss ya off on the puter but he can stuff a bunch of nose wings and top wings in a 6 X 12 and not bend a one or even get scratch on em, Very Impressive.

9. Curious if CCC (aka OKCFan12) is over being all lathered up after seeing all those enormous car counts all week, CCC goes SCHWIINNNNGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , LOL

10. Drank a few malted beverages , breathed a shovel of dust in and enough fumes for a badly tuned motor but had a heck of a time and can't wait until next year and do it all over again.

Congrats to Damian Gardner on winning the toughest race of the year.

David is good but he didn't haul ALL those wings in a 6x12. He had help.

Ok now for my rant.

Where is the love for Trey Robb?

I know I'm bias but facts don't lie.

Tuesday: Top five in practice times out of 270+ cars

Friday: He started 5th in his heat moved to 2nd in 3 laps and spun going for the lead when he and the leader ran out of room. He came back and finished 3rd. A Qualifier he got moved back 6 spots to 7th on the first lap came back to 4th. B feature won by a straight a way. A Feature started 19th finished 9th with a badly bent right rear shock on a dry track.

Saturday: B feature started 7th passed Sammy Swindell within 2 laps and was on the move. Trey was in a transfer spot for the A running 5th and Slammin' Sammy plain and simple took Trey out.

Good week for a guy who was in a midget for the 3rd time ever.

Not one mention by Chili bowl announcers or Lonnie Wheatly recognizing Trey as the 2007 USCS national asphalt Champion as they don't acknowledge USCS as a series but do recognize Ventura Junior Ford Focus Midgets. Dumb! Because the promoters of the ASCS and USCS have some kind of ill feeling towards each other, a young man who has only seen asphalt 8 times and won 5 times,(4 in a row) is denied the much need publicity all young drivers need. The kid has either won a championship, rookie of the year or both every year he has raced. All facts!

I agree Sammy laid the iron on Trey, but Bobby East paid Sammy back.

One more thing how about Johnny Murdock, pretty scary , even on slow laps had items falling off of his car, guess not enough Duct Tape or Zip Ties.

Thanks JD for the directions Friday. Between you and my cousin I heard Harvard/Yale/21st so many times I am now brainwashed and know that if I get within a mile of the expo, 'just go to the driller'.

One of the reasons I didn't keep driving a car for all those years was I always needed directions.LOL

thanks for the warm and juicy thoughts JD - I'm still recovering from Da Bowl. Caught some nasty black bug after Saturday and had migraines from the fumes - but ironically enough - am still very content and satisfied with the great bullring racing action. Kaylee thought I lost my mind b/c I wasn't mad bout gettin sick - just told her it was more than worth it.

to sum it all up - best race of the year - both the race and the experience..................

I was very disappointed bout Trey Robb - on his qualifying night he was so much faster than the cars in front of him it gave him fits - and then to be taken out by the worst prick in racing - man I really f-n hate Swindell. despise him. not sure Bobby East payed him back as he came out on the short end of that stick. did take swindell out and usually even drivers I don't like I don't really wish that on - but since there were no injuries - loved seeing swindell taken out of the race. suprised the Slammer didn't go over and hit east while he was still upside down. since it is in his nature obviously. enough bout swindell though. Trey Robb looked great - and think maybe this could be the breakthrough year that has been expected from him - although not sure if reports that he's gonna run in Indiana will transpire - I sure do hope the best for him and would like to him see far exceed the vast expectations so many placed on him.

I also thought Don Hubbard's Sooner Circles article was really interesting (always is actually) - but one thing in particular was Donnie Ray Crawford's plans to not only take in some ascs and non-wing action - but also possible some friday nights in OKC. thats cool. which sprint class would he run?

needless to say - I am glad to see the ascs schedules released - I mean the regional ones. Looks like really solid schedules all the way around - although haven't looked at Rebel and all the distant ones. But the Sooner region schedules sure looks interesting. I would really like to see the Boyd race. depending on what sfs is runnin that night. and also really like the KSP and Cowtown weekend. think thats gonna be a great one. great idea for sure. also like Cowtown having 4 events because along with Devil's Bowl thats a good # of Texas trips - and with season pass for six flags this year - Texas trips are good. great schedules I think from both Sooner and National sides of ASCS. No PA trip - thats good. single race nights in TN I'm not sure about. But the schedule looks pretty good and hopefully a good # of great drivers will give it a try. Now just waiting for the SFS schedule and I'll be able to make a schedule of my own. although hotel reservations already in place for Devils Bowl Wint. Nat., the Short Track Nat., and the Knoxville 360 Nationals. I'm pretty excited bout this upcoming season. Saw a copy of the ASCS2 schedule in the press room at the Chili Bowl tuesday and that even looked good - especially with a few dates at I-44 Speedway here in OKC.

so yes JD - whereas the moisture from the chili bowl has dried (although not in my nose and chest) - the moisture is returning down below in anticipation for the 2008 OUTDOOR race season. lol.

ya'll take it easy.

I think he was referring to Stewart maybe running some Friday nights at OKC. I might be wrong, but that's how I read it.

From what I understand Darren Stewart and Gary Lee Maier might be sharing a ride on fridays in the super sprints.
