Or Kyle or Rico or the Donny 10+ years ago. David smooth and calculating and Todds crew and equiptment are as good as any. His clean driving style and being low key will make it hard to dislike him.

Calling him the "Big Cat" has always been hilarious to me it's equivalent to jumbo shrimp.

Its David's turn, he's earned it. Other than Kyle I beleive he is the best driver, best team and best owner currently in the sport..  

Easy there Lightning Jack, I'm certain David Gravel would be the champion regardless of who was running with him last year, and at least 50% of the time, I'm right, every time. 

Keep It Real

It gets real old real fast, all this if, but, and what about - chatter.  A successful person rises about the rest at his/her given time, that's what makes you a champion. They don't have to beat scenarios or people of other eras. And they dont have to beat people who don't compete against them.

IMO, Gravel has gotten to the point where he is now better than Sweet, not just running well because Sweet left.  The changing of the guard was coming anyways.  I don't have numbers, but if my memory serves me, Gravel is almost always ahead of Sweet at events they both currently attend. 

I'm pretty sure Sweet wasn't going to win 20 titles in a row before retiring in his upper 40's.  Eventually someone gets better.  Always.  

Agree with this. Steve, Donny and Brad had their time,now its Gravel's time to be on top. For how long who knows?

He's about to make this season very boring if he keeps qualifying great and drawing decent.   But yeah, its definitely his time to be the best in the world.  He's earned it.

I don't know about boring, but as far as the points race goes, it might be a wide margin.  Runaway points races have been the norm in the history of the WoO, not the exception.  Most of the points races are won by over 100 points, and many won by hundreds of points.  Even a 50 point lead with 5 or 10 races to go is a tough lead to overcome, so not too many seasons have really come right down to it.   Logan looks to have quite a bit of speed right now too, so as dominate as David has looked, it's still very early, so time will tell.

What makes this current era so exciting is when Larson, Bell, and maybe Day (unsure of his schedule?) pull in the pits, the WoO or HL drivers aren't even the favorites to win in their own series anymore.  In the old days, the locals tried to defend their turf from the Outlaws.  Now, the HL and Outlaws are trying to defend their turf from Larson when he shows up.  Or Bell.  Or possibly Day.  There are so many layers to some of these big shows now!  (With the exception of the King's Royal until they fix that dumb format)

Let's not to do Day what we did to Rico a few years back when people elevated him to Bell and Larson status because he got a truck ride. I remember the days of people bemoaning how "Larson, Bell and Rico" weren't around to beat Schatz. Rico came back and was pretty pedestrian until he got Rick Warner. Same with Day, he had one very good year and now is in the nascar world. When he comes back he'll be a threat but certainly not to the level of Larson/Silva.

I started following sprints and this forum more right after Rico returned from somewhere i was not aware of. Lots of talk about him being untouchable but i never saw it in the results. Good? Yes but not what this forum painted him to be. I was often questioning myself what i was missing in his career. Settled on believing his better years were behind him until his success with Ricky.

He is starting season strong and a good qualifier which is key to making dash and starting at least 6th with 3 heats lately. When Kyle Rico Brad James or Bell show up when HL & WOO and both groups run together it will be a lot tougher to dominate. David is deserving and has equal or better equiptment ,crew, and with Todds backing making it look easy which it isnt

Don't disagree---just didn't want to leave all of the Day fans out that think he's already somehow at Larson's level.    (He may get there, but no comparison yet)

As far as Rico goes, he's always been very good.  However, I haven't really seen anything at all that makes me believe Ricky Warner has turned him into a superstar.  He's the same dude, maybe slightly more competitive, but he's always been able to win a race here and there and be competitive wherever he goes.  If he runs a 60-80 race season, I don't ever seen him having a 30 win year against these guys like Schatz did.  Ricky's missing the key component to the 30 win season----Schatz in his prime, in the seat.  Rico in his prime:  Very good.  Schatz in his prime:  Arguably, as good as anyone in their prime has ever been.
