Figured I'd try to fit in. 2 years ago Brent Marks was the best car in the country, what happened?

That's nothing. Mark Kinser is having the longest dry spell of his career.

On a serious note, consider it the sophomore jinx. The guy had a super season, his best ever. What are the odds of having two over-the-top best seasons ever in a guy's career? Unless you're Steve Kinser, the odds don't look good.

It's been noticable during the CA swing. My guess is he's being cautious so as not to tear up his equipment. The CA tracks are a bit rough. Not a surprise to see Corey "no fear" Day do so well. If you're not willing to drive on the edge of safe you're not going to do well in CA. So many of the cushions there are just treacherous.

I've been a big fan of Marks after an interaction at Skagit years ago. This was back when he was traveling with the Outlaws and only had one crew guy. He wasn't competitive back then and was just struggling to get by. After the feature that night the big names were being swarmed with fans. Marks was alone scraping mud off his top wing when I approached him. Very humble and quiet guy. You could sense he was working hard and was committed to improving.

Looking forward to seeing him have some better nights this coming weekend at Skagit. I'll be there all three nights.

The Outlaws begged my brother and I to show up at the Charlotte race one year to make sure they had atleast 24 cars for a full field.

We parked beside Marks rig, and we were starving because we spent all night putting two cars together.  Then hauling a few loads of sand to the concrete plant, then hauling ass to Charlotte to basically start and park.

When we got out of the truck starving, all we could smell as we unloaded were hotdogs.  Walking by Marks side door on the hauler, we noticed, in place of a shock dyno, there was a rotating hot dog machine.

We finally got up the courage to ask one of his guys for a hot dog since we were broke, and they fed us hotdogs and baked beans all night.

I farted the entire feature and the heartburn was unbelievable during the caution laps.

But they were great hotdogs and I've been a fan of his since then.

Probably a few reasons like new tracks or tracks he has not been to in awhile. I was at Knoxville when he gave an interview and he admitted he still has not gotten a handle on the new tires. He also may be a little distracted- new baby arriving soon. (seems to be a theme with these HL drivers-Windom, Thorson, Allen, and Marks all expecting new little ones). Also don't forget he lost a crew member to a broken leg at LAke Ozark Speedway in June.

Going back to his days racing locally in PA, Brent has always been extremely streaky. He's either 0 or 100. When he's on, he will string together a lot of wins but when it's over, it's over. He's always been a guy who I thought was at his best just racing when and where he wants. For that reason I was surprised he signed on with High Limit.

And yet he is fourth in points ahead of Corey Day who everyone thinks is having a great year.

Bingo !

I think the team is very focused on securing a High Limit Charter this season.     He hasn’t raced outside of HL very much except for some big WoO races and in Texas.

You don't have to try, you fit in just fine with the rest that love to post just so they can admire their own comments.

To be fair, it was a pretty good post.

Yeah, it was a relevant post and I've wondered why Brent isn't winning as much,  but I think someone mentioned he is fourth in HL points. I'm just messing with you , I figured you to post a more original topic than jumping aboard the sheeple train. Maybe HH should have a sub forum on "Whats going on with Driver ???"

He always runs well at Port Royal. I think he'll be fine at the Tusky.

More proof of just how good Steve Kinser and Donnie Schatz were. It's one thing to have a good year but quite another to string 10-20 together. And I'm not buying the lack of / same competition for Kinser. There were at least 5 other good, well funded, cars, drivers, and crew chiefs throwing everything they had at him every year for 20 years and they couldn't beat him - Sammy Swindell for one.

But I digress. I think the world was a better place with the World of Outlaws, High Limit just running midweek shows, the All Stars, and true outlaws like Marks and Rico. Marks, Rico, and Peck might not agree from the long view but they had better seasons.

What's wrong with high limit running on the weekends? They've had a great season so far. All the naysayers have been proven wrong. Competition is what makes this country great. Nothing wrong with that.

In terms of the full season you're right, but if you haven't noticed the trend over the past month you're not paying attention. Day has been consistently winning or seriously competing for wins. Marks has been struggling to make the top ten. It's been noticeable.
