No. They've already sold a boatload of tickets for the outlaw shows. From what I'm hearing, those will be the last races run at Selinsgrove Speedway. Next year it will be a truck stop. Enjoy this historic track while you can. The source is a state representative so I think it's legit. Tough to make it in these times, especially when the other local tracks are working against you. I really don't think any central PA tracks are safe. I went to the Dream race at Port a couple weeks ago and it was total ghost town and we know how empty the Grove is for weekly shows. Times have changed and young folks just aren't into dirt track racing like we were growing up.
|
they still got a big crowd for the summer nationals at williams grove so my guess is there will be some right sizing of the number of events and possibly tracks in the next few years. 3 or 4 years ago was probably about as good as it can get in pa. there were tons of invaders and the pa competition was solid. the woo/high limit split means tracks have to pick a side so we haven't seen guys like larson, rico, or brad sweet in central pa at all this year. we were seeing them just every week especially during covid. everyone tried to grab a piece of that pie by adding events.
we used to go to at least 1 race every weekend. we've been to 2 races total this season. there's so much focus on winning individual races and high paying events that track titles seem completely meaningless...so why would fans go to weekly races? we're waiting for the tuscarora 50 and national open in september.
what have the crowds been like at lincoln? i feel like that place is at risk of becoming irrevelant...but it always seems well supported by the fans. i just looked at their schedule and the dirt classic went away completely. i knew it was moved to labor day weekend and it was no longer sanctioned...but didn't realize the event was renamed. it's going to be hard to survive in a world that focuses on big paying races when you have 1 outlaw show all year. we haven't even really considered going to a race down there this season...not even the speedweek races because there were hardly any invaders.
lincoln would serve itself well to stay on flo. i could keep up with what was going on weekly and stay interested. since they left...i've pretty much lost interest in the weekly shows while i can keep up with what's going on at port.

Since they can't pay the All Stars what makes the WoO think they will get paid.
https://trellis.law/doc/209676205/complaint-equivalent-pleading-filed-complaint-for-damages
It's also kinda ironic that the two Outlaws teams didn't run the Speedweek show at Selinsgrove. I wouldn't be surprised if WoO told them they could run the race because they were pulling the 2 day show in October. Teams and drivers know before fans a majority of the time.
|
JT22 thanks for sharing that court filed complaint - as it now removes past questions about what it cost for an All Star Show.....can't believe they got $60,000.00.
looking at results from 8-20-23 race at selinsgrove: https://www.allstarsprint.com/schedules/event/437763/
only 6 of the 10 all star teams https://www.floracing.com/articles/10854577-tezos-all-star-circuit-of-champions-full-time-drivers-announced actually showed up.
So if I was a promoter (no way have to be crazy to do it :-)) I probably would question paying $60,000 for 6 drivers or $10,000 per driver......
Again i'm not defending paying only 50,000 of the 60,000 contract - but would defend ERS disputing it up front with a guarantee car count.
Tim Shaffer 4th in points, JJ Hickell 5th in points, Hunter Scheurenberg 9th in points andPPM 12th in points did not show.

Port used to have on October Woo date.
|
that is the weekend Selinsgrove got.....
many rumors why the split........
one i here often is Port asked WoO to move that weekend as October is always a crap shoot for weather in central PA...WoO didn't want to move......
i believe or IMHO what is undisputable is this is a battle between Flo and Dirtvision.
i'm sure others have way more info/rumors not that it matters or is anyone business - i only shared the date change request as that was not "Top Secret"

Those must really excite sprint car zombies watching them on a big half mile.

This is what was posted on Facebook:
As many of you know, Stephanie was involved in a serious car accident before the start of the 2024 racing season.
Last week, she underwent an emergency procedure to repair the artery that was damaged due to the accident after suffering multiple strokes. As a result, she has serious complications that are life-threatening and at best will take a significant amount of time to heal. After discussion with Speedway officials, at this time, we feel it is in the best interest to cancel this weekend's racing. We apologize to all the fans, teams, sponsors and employees who were counting on this special event, but regrettably this cancellation is unavoidable at this time. Upon medical clearance Stephanie will return, and these events will be rescheduled at that time.
Further details will be made available at a later date.

That is some serious health problems there to deal with, especially after "several strokes ". Best wishes and prayers for Stephanie to fully recover.
Obviously there are multiple things all developing at Selinsgrove as the season winds down. I don't believe the track will disappear, although it will take time to straighten these things out.

Saw on Facebook that the Monster Truck show scheduled for the 7th is also cancelled. This was posted the the truck show not the track. Truck show also tried to get clay for their show but were refused by the quarry because the track owes them money also. According to the Monster Truck Show the track is closed for the immediate future. Do a search on Facebook for the Monstster Truck Show and see for yourself.

That’s a shame. A different PA track recently hosted monster trucks and fans packed the place 2 nights in a row. More fans showed up for the trucks than for their biggest races.
When you have a dirt track (especially in PA) you need to promote it as a large facility and not just promote a race track. You need to schedule monster truck shows, rodeos, concerts, lantern festivals, consignment auctions, community events, flea markets, demolition derbies, tractor pulls, archery festivals, race practices, etc. And rent out your facility for racing or non racing events whenever possible. In other words - be creative. Try to draw non race fans to your facility. You can’t just schedule PA races and throw money at them unless you want to throw away a lot of money.
So what happens to the WoO shows scheduled for October 11th and 12th ? If they continue as planned, they all are taking a huge risk. It is $15,000 to win the first night and $30,000 to win the second. A crappy October weather forecast will keep fans away. And how many fans would attend both nights ?

Sad as it is to say, those type of Monster Truck/Night of Destruction shows outdraw racing at a lot of places where they are held.

These monster truck shows are usually cheaper to get in and are really popular with families with kids. They don't need alot of attention span, track prep, sitting through boring prelim races, support classes, etc. I am almost to the point that if every car that is going to make the feature anyway, skip the prelims and just run the a-main. Just add a few more laps. I am from the midwest and I enjoy watching races in the East, but I rarely watch any prelims. Several times this year the Grove or Port didn't get full fields or started everybody in the a-main anyway. This should especially be true for support classes.

From Selinsgrove Speedway Facebook
#1 The Speedway is not closed and every person involved with the speedway is committed to it remaining open for a very long time.
#2 Racing is on hold because Stephanie has recently had emergency surgery. Her doctors believe it is imperative that she avoid stress while she recovers. She has already had complications and the likelihood she could have a massive stroke in this time frame is high. This takes presidence over events but events will resume as soon as possible.
#3 Stephanie has tried to be as open as she can about her struggles since her accident last fall. If you worked with her or spent time with her you would not question the reality or severity of the situation she has been facing. All of us are grateful that this surgery gives her hope that she can get back to good and that the boys can have their mom back.
#4 If you are concerned with the future of the speedway then help us gain partners. Help us find sponsorship dollars, marketing opportunities etc instead of spreading rumors and negativity.
#5 The speedway, like every other, has had a rough year financially with the economy we are in. This does not mean the speedway is done, it means everyone is digging in to figure out how to make the situation better. None of us are wired to quit, we will find a way.
#6 This management team isn’t full of millionaires but still has chosen to invest its money to keep a race track open that has been struggling for years, believing that with enough passion, determination and grit, they will succeed. If you believe in bashing them for having the balls to risk it all for the sport we all LOVE then frankly, you are the problem. What happens if no one tries?
#7 Seeing all the negativity that this and every other track is dealing with right now how long do you think people will want to stay involved? Would you want to face what you have seen this group, the last group or truly anyone running a speedway faces online right now?
#8 Have you ever considered if what you are posting is good for the sport? How do we grow and bring in new fans when so much of the posting on social media is so incredibly toxic? I don’t care if you like any of us but I do care that your words and actions hurt not just this speedway but the sport and its future.
#9 PLEASE give the boys, Steph’s ex-husband, our officials, employees and Fairboard a break. The questions, rumors and negativity are overhelming right now. We are all racers and race fans, if you see us at the local track we are there for the same reason you are, because we LOVE racing and we are either there to do a job or enjoy the races. So please let us. I promise you, if the management team is leaving, the track is closing, races are canceled or anything else we will post it here and on the website (selinsgrovespeedway.us). If you have something positive to add I’m sure they would appreciate hearing it. If you think you would like to be involved in being part of the solution please feel free to reach out to any of us, that too would be welcomed.
#10 Steph will still be slow to respond right now but we know she is committed to dealing with any issues that need addressed. Since her surgery she was beginning to have some clarity to her thoughts and was able to follow through on tasks that she couldn’t achieve prior to it. She does have all the emails, messages from websites and social media coming directly to one hub so we can help stay on top of things until she can.
#11 We want to end on a note of positivey from the management team and say a heartfelt thank you to every race team, fan, official, sponsor, board member and volunteer who has stood by us and the speedway the past two years. It’s been an honor to work with you, race with you and dream with you.

i just saw they moved the outlaw race in october from selinsgrove to lincoln.
that's a pretty big loss for selinsgrove. it's not negativity to say that...it's reality. hopefully they can pull things back together for next season.
it's a big pick up for lincoln though. i feel like they've been short on marquee events since losing the all start sanctioned shows. now they've back in business with another outlaw event.

It was also reduced to one day 20K to win show. Sucks they could have maybe gave their teams another "week" of freebies to really let their drivers get a chance to make some extra money and run wherever they want or just take time off. HL has 20k, 25k, 10k and 50k between Oct. 8th and Oct. 12th. Plus they are back in the area anyway the next 2 weekends, (Illinois and Arkansas). Plus I am planning on attending all of them . P.S. I am not stirring the WoO vs. HL pot oh who am I kidding. YES I AM lol.

For Immediate Release:
The Selinsgrove Fair Association is aware of the situation with the current Selinsgrove Speedway promoter ERS Promotions.
We are actively trying to work out a amicable resolution for both parties.
The Fair Board would like to reiterate the property will remain a race track.
We ask for patience at this time for both parties to come to a agreement.

Would like to see Richie Tobias take a shot at this track. He promoted a show there a few years back.

Not real good at linking stuff; but Jeremy Elliott posted on his SprintCarUnlimed.com site info. I refuse to cut and paste someone elses work. This link does not require a subscription and Jeremy did some research and asked ERS for comment - who did not respond and i can understand no comment because of lawsuits.
Known debt from the article including judments in all but three cases is $47,603.85 - with judgements it will probably go just north of $50,000.00. I would have to believe someone will have to take care of some of the debt service before they can even put a car on the track or a fan in a seat.
Just so unfortunate - my worry is it ever opening again.....
