US Navy flight deck veteran catapult crew here.  You bring 'em, we sling 'em.  20 second life expectancy when we set foot on the flight deck.  Considered one of the most dangerous jobs in the military.  Close calls include an A4 taking a guys leg at the hip.  Shrapnel from an F8 that exploded on the cat track.  Watched the pilot sink while slumped over in the cockpit.  Sidewinder missile came within inches of taking my head off during a night launch and afterburner lighting a puddle of jet fuel in my face.

Nothing to apologize for or defend.  Those are just my life experiences.  When you've worked on the roof it ranks Sprint Car photography as #2 on my all time exciting things list.  Crawl under a jet and hook it up to the cat while the pilot turns up the power and the cat takes tension.  Be sure to be aware of what type aircraft you're running out from under so you don't get sucked up an intake.  One guy got sucked into an A7 and when they pulled him out his eyeballs were hanging by a thread and lungs were sucked out of his mouth.  One time a guy got hit by a prop and took his fooot off.  The foot flew across the deck and hit a guy in the head who passed out when he saw what it was.  The cat crew being the animals we were took our shoes off and threw them on the table in the mess hall.

I have been mostly ostracized by the racing community because I vote democrat on the recommendation of the union I was in.  Both my son and I had to shut down our facebook accounts due to him being threatened.  He lives in Wisconsin near Cedar Lake and is Republican but both of us aren't willing to die on that hill.  Les was threatened with a beatdown in a Wisconsin bar because of me mentioning my lack of religion and political leanings.

Ironically the only ones that reached out after I suffered a meltdown over my lymphoma was WoO Late Model driver Brent Larson.  One of the nicest guys I know.  We don't necessarily agree on religion and politics but he's cool even though I focused mostly on Sprint Cars when I wrote for Flat Out.  I got a message from former 360 driver Mark Toews as well so a shout out to him for his kindness.  I have no argument with anyone on this forum but most of them would kick my 73 year old ass for my world view if they got a chance.

I went to my first race at 9 years old in 1960.  It was never a political or religious statement but just something I was drawn to when my cousins had Jerry Richert Sr. in their car from 60-62.  He gave my sister and I a ride around the track in the back of the old modified with the model A body.  My mother had recently died so my dad set it up with JR.  The internet is becoming a cesspool of hateful people.  I'm dropping DV and making myself scarce.  When I show up at the track if stares were bullets I'd be dead meat.  To top it off I found out I'm on the autistic spectrum when my daughter and grandson were diagnosed.  That causes odd behavior and makes it extremely difficult to make and keep friends.  I was shunned by the Jehovah's Witnesses after twenty five years and lost every friend I had as well as a daughter who ironically is the same age as Schatz, the governor hater.

Autistic people tend to do what's called an information dump.  Kind of like I just did on here.  We are also creatures of habit and stick to a routine.  It's a weird thing to find out at 71.  I always thought I was a normal person but the last few years have been hell.  My autism combined with beer is what cost me my writing and photo gig.

Heading to a doctor's appointment soon.  Anxiety is going to do me in.  I burried an uncle who was like a brother last week died from the same thing I have.  Ran into a cousin who flinched when he put the shotgun to his chin.  Now he drinks his beer through a straw and puts a finger in the hole where his mouth was so he doesn't drool.  His brother didn't flinch.  I don't own guns because of that.  Wish me luck.  I've really been fucked up lately and getting shit here on HH and criticized by Schatz in victory lane was really hard.  I took the same path as our governor at 17 and my ex-son-in-law was in Walz's unit Red Bulls and went to Iraq.

Doc visit went well.  We discussed anxiety medicine and suggested that instead of adding more pharmaceuticals that I should use more of the medical cannabis I grow for my cancer.  My wife uses gummy candies for her health issues so I was able to eliminate sleeping medicine last year.  Nothing they can do much with the autism, therapy from Minnesota Oncology for the cancer stress.  Avoid social media are also doctor's orders.  Take a test for sleep apnea to make sure that isn't part of the problem.  Don't watch WoO races so I'm not triggered by Schatz' insults.  Got an email from another Sprint Driver who was supportive and has scolded Schatz for his political comments.  Donny's father had cancer so I'd like for him to know that I am grateful to Tim Walz and Jesse Ventura for legalization.  Sprint Fans ran Kevin Eckert out of racing for cannabis use so I know their narrow minded opinions about medical marijuana.  I am keeping Floracing and avoiding race tracks from now on.  That way I can get my racing fix without being assaulted by some asshole at a bar.  Probably won't see much of me on here either.  I had a website and HH board from 1999 to 2016 so I was a moderator of my own board at one time.  It's a thankless job dealing with the trash talking and getting phone calls and messages from angry promoters and drivers.  Even got my ass chewed out by the famous Todd Q one time during Covid.

Dirt track Sprint Car racing.  A sport that wants to ostracize fifty percent of their potential fan base.  Every "Libtard" isn't hanging around with trans people on the corner of Hennepin Avenue.  Some of us are traditional DFL aka famer/labor going back decades.  We're pretty much just like you, grew up on a farm, hunted and fished, rode four wheelers, went to races.  Nevertheless, we are not welcome anymore.

Actually the worst day of my life was the April 1965 morning my dad had a massive heart attack.  I was thirteen, he was a solo parent by that time.  I didn't know CPR but tried to revive him.  The person who took me to my first race only five years earlier did the death rattle in my arms.  I was officially an orphan and felt like it was my fault for decades for not knowing CPR.  Ended up with a religious aunt and uncle that thought racers were evil.  They beat the living shit out of my cousins with a belt.  I rebelled, got kicked out along with my sister after six months.  Ended up with grandparents and was told I'd need to find a place to live at 18 when state assistance checks ended.

My only sin is voting DFL like the WWII vet and railroader that died in my arms.  Schatz doesn't like me, I don't give a fuck.  He's the same age as my middle daughter and has lived a privileged life.  Yeah, I wanted to drive a Sprint Car at fifteen like we watched him do but for obvious reasons I couldn't make it happen.  He'll never understand day to day survival and dodging exploding F8's and hung ordinance on the deck of a carrier so he'd have a place to live.  I will keep and watch Floracing, stay off social media and stop trying to revive racing friendships.  So yeah, guys like PeteP are piss ants that don't deserve my time.

Ironically again my cousin Tom Wilke owned Sprint Cars in the 60's and 70's.  They raced with Danny Schatz and Bill Dollansky among others at Norh Starr in the 70's.  I had a cool experience with Danny.  Waiting at the gate to cross the track at Knoxville with the camera bag.  It had rained and I made the comment "I wonder if they'll race".  Danny turns to me with a look that made my knees shake a bit and replied "oh, they're going to race".  I can see where Donny gets his work ethic and discipline.  He even had me saying "yes sir, whatever you say sir".

Some trivia for you crowd pleaser fans.  Bill told me that he bought his first Sprint Car from my cousin Tom.  He flipped it and got knocked out.  Tom was the first one to get to the car.  Bill came to and told Tom to put it on its wheels and push it off.

Sorry about hijacking this thread and welcome to the new member.  I really need to discipline myself and stay off HH.  I look like a fucking fool after blasting this board with my information dump and I'm just an old retired dude who's wife keeps him in the basement.  wink

Things could be worse.  Instead of hating on me because I'm a Libtard veteran he could hate on me for being like the Chaz.

Maybe next time we look up at the stands and they're half full we could sit down in the conference room and figure out why.  A good place to start would be to not insult 50% of their potential fan base.  Threats to my son at Wisconsin bars is the end of my involvement in racing.  There are other forms of entertainment and probably other racing series that are a helluva lot more welcoming to DFL veterans.

My son-in-law's band opens for some group that the drummer and bass players sons from Metallica play in.  I guess that Metallica is playing at one of the bigger venues nearby.  I might check that out and maybe I can meet James Hetfield backstage if he stops by to see his kid's band.  Jay plays Northwoods Rock Rally on Friday in Wisconsin, his dad is a Theif River Falls racing fan and greenskeeper who sponsors Sprints in Grand Forks.  Jay got invited to join Buckcherry at the strip club by ther lead singer in Milwaukee and we partied with Queensrhyche one time in the kid's motel room.  I am thinking about riding out to Wisconsin with the guitar tech.  I fished and hunted with his old man in the 70's.  They welcome everyone at metal concerts.

If you ever pass through Forest Lake, Minnesota, Australia, drop by and we'll burn some of my world class genetics.  I am growing a Fast Buds Banana Purple Punch, cannabis cup winner in Barcelona for strongest auto.  Motherwind, one of the bands playing Northwoods Rock Rally sampled my Orange Sherbert and Trainwreck and still haven't stopped talking about it.

I take it seriously, grow organically and get a lot of good reviews.  My son stopped going to races and helps them hump equipment now.  That's how I lost my racing travel buddy, someone from racing threatened him at the bar and he said fuck this shit.  Now he stops by and hits me up for flower to share with the metal bands backstage.  I am pretty good at it and don't fuck around.  All world class genetics.

My son is not a punk assed kid that starts shit in bars.  He's 53, has a wife and two kids.  He gets mouthy when he's in the bag but nothing worse than you'd see at Dingus' among 53 year olds.

Jehovah's Witnesses came to the door in 1974.  Let's just say that I was in a vulnerable state at the time.  When I converted my extended family threw me out of the house and disowned me.  Twenty five years later I realized that any religion that counsels their members for attending races and monitored our sex life to make sure there was no oral sex going on in our bedroom was bullshit.  Three of our four kids left, one daughter stayed in and still avoids me and her mother.  When I escaped the cult in 1999 I was "shunned" by every friend I had made for twenty five years.

My newfound freedom led me to messing around with computers and starting a racing website around the same time as Hoseheads.  I was not professional media, just some stooge looking to pull his camper out to the track and howl at the moon.  I traveled extensively with GRP of GRP Motorsports and religion and politics never came up.  The went to work where we were union and to the races where I wore earplugs and took photos.  It was all about the racing and getting out of the house.

When I got blackballed from racing in 2016 I lost all of my racing friends due people finding out my world view.  I'm alone and isolated and the phone never rings.

Shatz would be happy if I lost this battle.  His crew guy Lanman has despised me for over twenty years.  Apparently he had a problem with railroad rate clerks moonlighting as webmasters, writers and photographers.  I have no clue why but he can't fucking stand me.  If I lost the battle and they saw my obit they'd be overjoyed that they trolled a lib and pushed him over the edge.

I'm going to be OK but think twice before you say that shit and insult veterans.  What should I expect from the crowd that thinks Kid Rock wrapped in a flag shooting cases of Bud Light is more patriotic than a fucking Libtard who hooked fully armed F4's to the catapult?  I really don't give a fuck anymore after these fucking thugs threaten my son.  Fuck racing!!!

PeteP is a fucking piss ant that needs a mother fucking blanket party.  I have no time for his lamé shit and could care less what anyone thinks.  Stir this shit up and fuck with my son and I tend to get riled up.

I won't be here in a few years anyways and ain't no way I'll ever make the NSCHOF for my writing and photos.  LOL, that is funny just saying that.

And this ladies and gentlemen is why NASCAR demands that their drivers tow the company line in interviews.  I worked in the office of a Fortune 500 company called BNSF Railway.  We learned how to conduct ourselves in a professional manner when representing our employer.  I did that during my career but now I'm retired and not beholden to anybody.  I need my retirement and Medicare to survive but I guess that makes me a fucking socialist with this crowd.

I was just replying to Stan.

I don't think I've ever STARTED a political discussion here, I just respond. This time I'm agreeing... rare treat! Smile

Not trying to make any points or arguments, just stating who I am & supporting him
Sounds like he's gotten lots of crap for his views
