Any of you Veterans remember the little old Lady that used to drive around the Camprounds selling Homemade Pies, Cookies, Brownies, all kinds of baked goods out of the back of her station wagon. Back then it was probably $5 at most for a Strwberry Ruebarb Pie! Smile

Yes!!!

I also liked the festivities underneath the grandstands after the races.  Back when there were a bunch of campers parked there.

Knoxville Raceway app. Changed over to myracepass sometime in the past few weeks.

Apparently we owe much thanks to this Kyle McCullough gentleman and yes, THANK YOU! We'll miss the app and live results on the website. Now we have something that is not as good and costs 6 bucks a month.

You can view lineups and results for free with MyRacePass. You only have to pay if you want live timing (which was not included with the Knoxville Raceway app). I actually switched over to the MyRacePass app several years ago. In my opinion, it does a better job of showing the lineups and results plus you can use it to keep updated with basically every track in the country and every national touring series with the exception of USAC. MRP is a fantastic product.

I did manage to get the free lineups and results after messing with it a bit, but have to say I liked the look of the old app better. Probably because I'm more familiar with it.

So far I like the new app. Thanks to Kyle for getting Knoxville of  where it is today with the website.

I know the subject is, what we'd like to see back at the nationals but thought this was relevent....

What are some things we'd like to see at the Nationals, or improved?

1. Improved visibilty of the "what and where", like drivers signing, through the app. vs a board posted by the ticket office or through social media.

2. A map of where all the food trucks, and vendors are at.

3. A better location of the food vendors. I don't have a good solution for this but always thought the locations were poor. Id try to keep them off of the main concourse under the grandstands so the lines aren't blocking the main walk path.

4. More restrooms.

5. Tear down the skate pit and build a "welcome center" that includes merchandise that is sold at the HOF. Also another location for more suites.

6. Large rolling LED screen on the fairgrounds with 24/7 coverage of the Nationals.

7. Better Knoxville Nationals merchandise: year and event specific merchandise, hats, shirts, lanyards, coins, sublimated shirts, flags, etc

8. More concerts

9... I'm sure I'll think of more later... Knoxville is already so awesome, but these are things that I see, the best of the best do that I think would work for the Grand Daddy of them all.

Some things I would like to see at the Nationals again..

1.  I think the Knoxville Nationals is worthy of a Fly Over on Saturday. Even the Apache Helos were impressive back when they did that. Even some vintage war planes would be cool... Something!!

2. Katie Spriggs doing the Stars & Stripes. Has she been gone the past couple of years? Katie Spriggs is to Knoxville, what Jim Nabors was to Indy in my opinion.

3. The 1/4 scale Nationals... Man I used to like watching them race

4. Budweiser Clydedales.... Those are always an impressive sight.

Any others?

The Bus Ride!! And they never should've torn the car wash down, they didn't need to store hall of fame stuff there.

I think the Community still uses the Skate Pit pretty often! My first few Outlaw shows were spent next to it either in a pup tent or sleeping in my car. lol. Back then it was just trees & weeds along the old wooden fence of the track. I actually thought there was plans to put a new (suite type) building there just a few short years ago?

You are correct, there were plans to do it but never ended up happening. Here is a link to the article: https://www.thegazette.com/sports/knoxville-raceway-moves-closer-to-facility-upgrade/

Knoxville Raceway moves closer to facility upgrade

The expansion includes a four-story building in the southwest corner of the speedway which would hold 50-60 additional suites. A bill had been passed by the Iowa Legislature in 2014 that would provide for the rebate of state sales and use taxes of up to $2 million for the renovation.

In the midst of the Fair Board putting the project on hold track General Manager Brian Stickel has resigned in protest. Stickel disagrees with the decision and felt the track and board were making progress over the past ten years promoting the growth of the Speedway. Stickel's resignation will go into effect after the Knoxville Nationals.(2015)

Having never been to the Nationals, can someone tell me what the "Skate Pit" is?

It is an old building outside of turn one (SE Corner) of the track. It was an old skating rink and still being used for that but also used now for auctions / fundraisers, etc.  It is prime location at the track and why I think some people want to use the space for something else more interesting during the races but others prefer the nostalgia.

I completely forgot about this. Brian and his wife are still involved in the community.

Maybe a local can provide some insight here but Yes, I do believe there are some activity that goes on not related to the races in the skate pit. I THINK maybe even skating. IMO this would be a prime location for some of points original points. INDY has the SNAKE PIT, and Knoxville has the SKATE PIT. Would this be a better location for the ticket office?

There was a pie stand for years supplied by the locals outside of the Hall of Fame. I miss that a lot. Great place to go for dessert after getting a steak sandwich at the Cattlemen's tent.

The skate pit is sacred ground. Thru the years it seems everything on the fairgrounds has changed or been improved. From what I can tell the pit is the same as it was 40 years ago.

I would be happy just to get back to another Nationals but can't make it work.  They don't have to change a thing, I'd be happy just to see the place again before I go belly up.

How about a real jumbotron? The video screen they currently have is a joke when compared to "lesser tracks".
