The 42nd Annual Ohio Sprint Speed Week has started.   There will be 9 nights of racing.    There were 53 cars at Attica last night.       Maybe the lack of All Stars will bring out more low budget teams for some high car counts.    Hopefully they have good weather, good crowds, and good racing.

It's the original week of speed. Often immitated, never duplicated, almost exterminated!

Fremont has 55 sprints, and schedules 2 support classes to "showcase" them, and yet runs out of time and the A main is rained out. Classic promoter nonsense, I know Speedweek shows pay for a lot of bad nights but at some point you need to cap the number of support divisions for a show you know you're going to be running multiple consolation races at no more than 1.

The weather looks good tonight for the race at Waynesfield Raceway Park.  Tonight and the next 2 nights (and more later) will be broadcast on Floracing.

Why were they throwing eggs at Steve Kinser in ~82?

Amen to minimul support races. I'll pay more to see less of them.   One thing that can happen is the track takes on rubber from the support races and ruins the main. I like to be there but . . . . . . . they are encouraging folks to stream their races by doing this.

Their speedweek purses are what some tracks pay for a regular show. That's pretty sad.

I had a snarky comment loaded up but I'll bite my tongue.

Shame on HL for buying the series and not continuing one of their premier events - actually 7-8 or them

The results for Hilltop make it look like they only had 13 cars.

Does anyone recall what exactly the agreement was with High Limit & Ohio Speedweek? I remember some sort of announcement in the off season but I'm not sure what kind of support HL was giving. Just curious

You thought that was a cloud of dust wait until you see Dusty Musky, all though as dusty as that place gets the racing is normally pretty good.

I think the All Stars owned the concept or the name Ohio Speedweeks and High Limit through the purchase of the All Stars gained whatever it was that was owned by the All Stars. And I think High Limit rented it out to FAST for at least this yesr while saying they could bring it back under their banner in the future.

Here's what the guy said (paraphrasing) at the driver's meeting and planned to do Saturday at Fremont.  They scheduled trucks and 305s because they weren't sure what kind of car count they were going to get.  I think that's fair, given this was the first year of the FAST speedweek.  They got way more cars than they expected.  I also think that's fair, since I don't think anyone saw 50+ coming.  So what he planned to do was split the trucks and 305s both into two groups, odd/even based on points per night average.  No heats, just an odd feature and an even feature for both classes.  Full features, full points, full pay.  Use the features for natural breaks in the FAST program.  When I heard the plan, I was impressed.  Sounded efficient and more than fair to everyone.  Weather ruined it.  Could they have skipped 305 interviews and done the dash draw in the pits?  Sure.  Would that have saved enough time to get the FAST feature in?  No one will ever know.  Being a fan, I was disappointed with the weather, but not with what the track/series did.

Muskingum didn't look as dusty as Hilltop was from my vantage point in front of a Flo Racing broadcast.     The race was great last night.    There were 3 guys battling for the lead.        It has been pretty good racing all week.   It is nice to see Ohio drivers winning Ohio Speed Week races.      Cale Thomas beat DD by .001 seconds one night.   It has been very competitive.   Only Cale Thomas and Cap Henry have made every feature.     Car counts have been high.    Crowd looks good too.

"It was supposed to be doom and gloom for Ohio Speedweek after the sale of the All Stars to High Limit. That hasn't been the case, and I break down some numbers on this edition of the SprintCarUnlimited 90 at 9."

Cale Thomas did not make the show at Attica.  Cap Henry is the only driver to make every feature (Greg Wilson did not make the uncompleted feature at Fremont).

Yeah it is surpringly a good track, I had a lot of friends that drove for national series in Late Models and they would always rave about Muskingum when they came to Ohio. They all loved KC/Atmoc as well which I expected since as a fan the racing was always top level there but Muskingum is an easy one to forget. It does get awful dusty there from time to time and it is set up so the sunset blinds you for a bit when it goes down, that in combination with the dust makes some memories.

There is a a little track just south of Muskingum that is called Midway which is also really nice, that one is actually bright red clay, makes you feel like you are at a southern track. Dont think Sprints race there too much but I could see wingless sprints putting on a great show there. It is one of those tracks you dont feel like you are dirty until you get in the shower and it is like red paint coming off of you. They have a terraced hill that you can put campers on, a really nice way to watch a race.

I think long term it's good for Ohio to stop relying on the All Stars to have big shows, and this years Speedweek was a step in that direction. Excellent car counts, crowds and racing for the most part, and almost all the racers were from Ohio. Good showcase for the sheer amount of sprint cars in the state.
