Pretty sad when his crew guy is the official scale reader after Sweet wins.   That's bullshit.

I kinda like the HL honor system with rule enforcement. It's like when you are playing pick-up basketball and you call your own fouls. 

Could be the way of the future. 

I wonder how accurate the portable scales are?

I think if you have a HL charter you should be able to run a certain % lighter weight than other competitors. It would be a 'sliding scale', no pun intended. Just for example, HL charter members get a 10% discount on weight, or about 140lbs. 

I have always wondered that and how often they are calibrated. In Pa. DOT is to allow 3% for portable scales and with these track scales a couple pounds can disqualify you.

It certainly does. If they are not checked/calabrated they could be off. Yes they would be "Off" for everyone. 

I've always thought the methods of weighing the cars at the track had room for errors. I have a permanent scale near me at a gravel pit. I weight the vehicles twice at the same stop. It can be 25 lbs different and all I did was turn the truck around. Of course buying gravel by the ton some difference is only a few pennies on my bill.

I would think they would scale the cars early in the events and confirm again later. Liquids weigh about 8 lbs a gallon so burning more fuel could be the difference.

As to your first line, you are 100% correct.  i couldn't read the scale on the video, but it is clear no series official looked at the screen.  Highly doubt he was cheating, but just a really poor look in terms of perception.  If one of his crew guys is the tech lead, that is awful in it's own right. 

Just a recipe for disaster to have the series owner, track owner, track owner's kid, promoter's kid, etc race in that series or at that facility. 

Pretty much a no win situation if anything approaching controversy happens involving that driver.  Kinda same thing happening in Indy car with Penske & the cheating scandal. 

P. Pay attention... 

I'm going to disagree specifically with you on the suggestion that the series owner, track owner, track owner's kid, etc. statement.  Tony Steward owned a series, supplied the cars, found the race tracks, ran the races and it was just fine. Yes they should be held to the same standards as the others. 

Penske will fix the problems and I'll wager the people that were to blame will wish they had not screwed up.

You are spot on! And Brad Sweet is a joke!! On a thread earlier comparing HL to WWE is more accurate than we thought. Car weighed in at 1406lbs. last night.

I agree that was a very bad look for HL. Mike Hess and Brad Sweet (I'll give Larson a pass on this one as he is no doubt totally focused on the Indy 500) should come out very soon and be upfornt with everyone about what happed with Sweet at the scales - and how they are going to fix it moving forward.

I agree with those who say they should place the scales in the infield, preferably near VL, and so everyone can see that there is no shennaigans going on like last night. Eldora's scales are visible to everyone and has a red and green light for pass or fail.

Don't know how HL can go back and repair what's been done. Being that it's the series/officials fault, I don't see how the win or points could be taken away from Sweet at this point.

I turned it off off after the checkers. Did anyone else notice if 2nd and 3rd were scaled correctly by Hess?

I have defended HL far and wide, but this was bad. I admit that absolutely. 

Yeah it wasn't good and it does feed the fire about conflicts of interest but like I said before it's their first full year and mistakes will be made. I have no doubt it will be addressed and use it as a learning experience to not let it happen again. On to Utica Rome.

Another big mistake is a KKR crew member opening up an officals computer at a High Limit race.  Drivers are responsible for their crew members.  That also is 100% wrong.   Does everyones crew members get access to High Limit officals Computers any time they want?   Or is that a special privledge for a chosen few?

This wasnt a "mistake", they straight up cheated! Doesnt matter if its your first year or your five hundreth! Sly Cat got caught!  

I just finished watching the replay for last night race, I kind of wished I could have seen the action the front stretch, but that track has always been dusty and rubbered up everytime I was there.  BUT, when I saw what happened at the scale and a person with a team shirt on checked the scale, I thought what the heck was going on.  Kevin Nause is a class act and in my opinion an excellent offical, but what I saw sure made me come to hoseheads and see if anyone else saw what I thought was a major mistake on the officials part.  I hope that the High Limit administration can figure out what and why it happened and let the racing public know what we saw was explainable

Mike Hess and Kevin Nouse are good people. They didn't cause this.

This is the KKR/Sweet thing.  I guess they are special.

If me or my crew would have done that I'll guarantee we'd have gotten a night off to think about our actions.

I think a bunch of people need to get a hobby vs. making conspiracy theories up about every, single news event, and sporting event that is unfavorable to them.  It really, really gets old after a while.  The only possible way Sweet could beat that field of cars last night, was to be under weight..........................give me a break!  LMFAO
