While the teams claim that they need more money to survive and prosper it seems NASCAR has a lot of extra money. I got this clip from an article off the internet today (Wednesday). NASCAR debuts new production facility (from NBC).

CONCORD, N.C. — NASCAR CEO Jim France cut the ceremonial red ribbon outside of a new facility located adjacent to the NASCAR R&D Center, officially kicking off a new era for NASCAR Productions.

The 58,000-square-foot building is the new state-of-the-art home of NASCAR Productions, NASCAR Studios and the Motor Racing Network. It houses more than 140 employees

The $53-million facility boasts eight control rooms, four audio control rooms, four announcer booths, eight editing suites, podcast studios and two audio sweetening rooms. There are three studios, the largest of which is 1,500 square feet.

So NASCAR has set themselves up to do a lot of the video production of racing themselves even after signing a long term big dollar contract with several TV networks. I wonder about the streaming portion of their deals?

Again the potential big flaw in the streaming world is the internet getting overloaded by streaming and such.  It takes a lot of bandwidth to stream HD video.

You pay $80 a month for U Tube TV?  Aren't there cheaper alternatives?

Let me see if I understand your comment about the internet.  So, the internet can handle international trade, every EDI transaction for every business along with streaming entertainment but it's not a big enough network to handle a niche sport like racing?

OK, I think I understan it all more clearly now.

This Pete guy posts incessantly about streaming topics like he is working on some kind of research project but you are right, he is very clearly clueless lol.

LOL.  I have been with the internet since it started. Way before many of you even knew it existed. I'm an engineer with a real college degree.  It overloads sometimes already at several different levels. Cell phones are now having problems in many areas for several reasons. Interenet will follow.  Hard for some folks to understand.

Why don't you experts expain how it actually works and then why it won't be a problem . . . . . .

Dammit, you stole my Al Gore idea lol. Perhaps you should take him (assuming Pete=male pronouns) more seriously. He has a REAL college degree, not a fake one.......

So, you're an "engineer" with a real degree.  I'm not an engineer BUT I do know how the internet works.  I'm not going to waste my time explaining it to you since you're an engineer.  But believe it or not, fifteen to twenty years ago when streaming video was just taking off, some people thought "maybe we might want to prepare for this".  Also these same people get data telling them how gbps they are using.  So they can make adjustments and anticipate these things.  Also there's now the h.265 codec.  But I'm sure you're well aware how that works since you're an engineer.

I'm a latex salesman... if you hear your phone ringing please answer it as Vandelay Industries. Don't ask any questions.

Remember Jerry, it's not really a lie if you truly believe it.

Okay enough Seinfeld references. My job title is an engineer which makes me sound smart (though I am not) but the title engineer is so broad and loosely used. I for one don't know how the internet works and honestly don't really care to know too bad. What I do know is if someone has to start a conversation claiming a significant title about how smart they are, they usually know very little.

Meh, the guy did't say what kind of engineer. For all we know, he could be a sanitary engineer, designing sewer pipes.

That's funny, I've always thought the same thing.  I can pretty quickly pick up if a guy is bullshitting me or not and the smartest people I've ever met have never once told me how smart they are.  Reminds me of my 8th grade math teacher one day said "I've never understood why kids want to tell me how smart they are, I've taught math for 30 years, if you're really smart, I'm going to know that already".

Working in my industry, I've met lots of people who know an "engineer" and that engineer always knows more than I do.  I remember one time a guy was telling me his "computer engineer" kid told him this certain router was the greatest thing ever (I would've classified it as a cheap POS but what do I know).  Then he tells me his "computer engineer" son was shocked when they got home and it had wifi.  His "computer engineer" kid didn't realize that this "great" home router didn't have wifi?  In my experience someone only tells you they're an engineer if they're trying to convince you of something they don't about.

No number of degrees can replace experience. College degrees today are nothing but a money machine for universities sadly. A trade school is the best option today imo.

I can only say, nascrap, you have made the racing so bad nobody wants to come to the tracks any longer. The old saying win on Sunday buy on Monday is what nascrap lost site of. They used to have networks and corporations that wanted to sponsor teams and be seen on major networks. That's all gone. Nascrap has become a group of millionaires that support each other by having marketing teams that reach out to every major corporation out there. The big secret behind streaming is nobody knows what or how people are making money.

I used the old phone coupler internet dialup at work as far back as the 80's.  Got connected at home in '96 and worked on a dual monitor setup at a class one railroad until I retired.  No issues here, 250Mps and rarely have an outage.  I can only go by my personal experience and the internet has never been a problem for me.

It is not the consumer end in most cases. It is the middle of the process that is sometimes overloaded and will struggle as more people stream and others use more bandwidth. The more people streaming the same source the more resources it takes.

My son a recent graduate from a University of Wisconsin school has a great position, makes excellent money with great benefits. He does not work nights, Holidays or weekends. Part of being successful no matter what a person's education is requires drive, personality and common sense. Lots of young people cannot talk to adults.  They will always struggle. But wow can they text . . . . . . .

Dude, you are 100% wrong.  But since you're the engineer why don't you explain "the middle of the process" that's getting overloaded.  And how about explaining how more people streaming from the same source takes more resources.  Also since you've been with the internet when it started can you tell us all what year that was?

as far as the thread, if they can make money and market their brand in-house, why not?

I'm not exactly a Ford fan but as Dickie as he can be I don't think he has out right called anyone an azz hole or SOB. I think he tried to insult me once calling me a Canadian but that's actually a compliment knowing the annoying people here are Americans. I'm far from the oldest member here and I'm not too much into the name calling on a serious level but it's kind of understood you need to earn that right. You haven't.
