I have worked in the broadcast television sports business for a long time. I have done my share of races in the past long before streaming. Only recently have I become a big sprint car fan as I have semi-retired and now have more time to enjoy things I like to do. I go to events in Wisconsin and have FloRacing streaming. I also watch MAVTV and the sports networks on Direct TV.  I am amazed by the lousy announcers at the tracks and on most of the streaming services.

I'd like to hear your thoughts and comments.

Thanks!

Pete

ps I can tell you alot about behind the scenes in the production of TV sporting events. One thing at a time.

I'm more interested in their styles. Not names. I think they tend to talk to fast and the ones that scream should be gone.

Johnny Gibson and Blake Anderson cover most of the races.  I like them both, nothing against either one

I watched the late model race at boone on dirtvision. Don't know who announces those but dang it was bad enough I turned down the volume.

I suspect you'll hear about Johnny for about five or more years after he retires. Every time the announcer topic comes up and he will be the standard all future announcers will be compared to.

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

Dave Hare. Dude is amazing. He can convey excitement without squealing like someone just took a cow taser to his bag. His style is as cool as the other side of the pillow. He does his homework and doesn't make mistakes. Best of all, he knows when to shut up unlike the smooth brain behind the mic in Juniata county. He's the best there is in Pennsylvania right now.

The guys that did Thursday night thunder back in the day were great announcers.  The behind the scenes personal at WRG events want fast talking, loud announcers. Gibson is a knowledgeable guy that does his homework and is a really fast talker, so is Reuben on the slm side. As a listener, they talk faster than I can keep up. When they get ready to go 4 wide I hit the mute button.  Again, for as knowledgeable as Johnny Gibson is I'd like to have him follow the style of the thunder crew. Those guys were a joy to listen to.

100 percent spot on Dave has the voice and delivery of any professional announcer anywhere now Mr Hoon needs a speech therapist.

The guys doing the High Limit are decent.  The streaming services do a terrible job of informing the viewers of who the announcers are. Ken Stout I had worked with for many years before streaming started up. He is still on MAVTV often. He is a true professional. I'd put him at #1 period!

usually i back up all the announcers.  while he overall is very good...i believe it's the knoxville guy who says "yellow, yellow, yellow".  i know it's a yellow.  you don't need to tell me three times.  i probably notice it more because i watch the youtube highlights of the outlaws so if there are multiple cautions...it feels like the entire video is "yellow, yellow, yellow".

The best announcers call the race perfectly, don't miss the action wherever it is on the track, fill the dead time and entertain throughout the show , and they orchestrate their teammates seamlessly. Tony Bokhoven is the best in the business. Johnny is great but doesn't have the radio voice Tony has.  Only one I can't stand to listen to is the guy who does the Grove, or used to. Not sure if he still does. The monotone man. Sounds like he's constipated and should be doing bingo night at the senior center.

Four days of the dream team of race announcing right around the corner with Tony, Johnny, and Wade Aunger doing infield reporting. Best team you can get.

The gentleman at PA/EMMR is awesome as was the late Jack Miller.

ASCS announcer is solid and has the voice.

The DirtVision WoO gets the mute button

We all have our favorites and not-so-favorites.

Knowledge comes with experience and many are as knowledgeable as their peers.

Till Johnny retires and they're done grooming pit reporter Chase (Eddie Munster hairstyle)....

Maybe they can hire that "Pillow Pusher" after Johnny retires...

I'm huge fan of Tony.  I also really enjoy  Chet.  He has some classic one liners.

All the pre-green pre-canned rants are unlistenable. All the "big time" announcers are very knowledgable but most of them scream into the mic. I could barely listen to the youtube replay from Knoxville Saturday, Tony is out of contol. Just got back from two days at Road America and had the pleasure of listening to John Hindaugh. I would love to hear that guy do some sprint car announcing.
