i saw a facebook post yesterday that briggs is leaving the 5g team to drive the 39 wingless car. there's a post today from heffner that they'll be running a 27 wingless car with a new driver.
anybody know how this went down? i've never been a fan of mike heffner and i'm hoping he didn't kick briggs to the curb for some reason...like maybe 12 wins and a usac east coast championship wasn't good enough for him. he has a record of kicking ryan smith to the curb. devon borden leaving the 27 for an upstart team was telling as well.

Please don't let your disdain for Heffner cloud your judgement. Yes the 5g had 12 wins, but in a series where there was only one other team with the equipment and talent as they had. This split might be more about a crew chief and a ride buying sponsor along with Heffner all having no ability to work together. I think this split was inevitable if they moved on to a series with competition and they were unable to dominate.

please don't allow your love for heffner cloud your judgement. no reason to put down briggs like he's some random driver dependent on his equipment.
you could be absolutely right that this was a peaceful split. maybe briggs himself wanted to go a different direction. i have every reason to be skeptical of the heffner team though...especially the way people react when you do anything other than talk about how great his team is.

To be clear I know nothing about Heffner or his winged sprint car team aside from seeing it win a lot with Greg Hodnett. My remarks solely were connected to the 5g situation. They were two different operations. We will see how things go moving forward.

i haven't seen anything specific from them. i get the impression some of this came up fairly suddenly so they might still be figuring things out. definitely expect him to keep running the east coast series. whether he keeps venturing into places like indiana for wingless races or central pa for winged races remains to be seen.
i do hope the east coast series has some more competitive teams. the briggs vs. bright battles were epic. there's never anything wrong with making them 3+ way battles though. briggs runs just about anything and i think running the 600s at action track in particular was helpful learning to deal with traffic.
