GREED! That is the only word to explain $80 tickits to the Eldora Million. Sponsors will pay most of the purse. Ticket sales alone for that week will total approx.10 million. Add on food and souveniers and Tony is making about 10 million profit that week alone. Outrageous!

Do you think racetracks are charitable organizations?

I mean, maybe one day UNICEF will get into the "Million Dollar to Win a 410 race" business, but until then, Eldora's the place to go.

20 years ago I paid $80-some for an Eldora Million ticket to see Haud sqeek out his win over Stevie Smith and then the same general price to watch Donnie Moran win his Eldora Million.

Meanwhile down here in DFW, people are peeing all over themselves trying to snatch up $4,000 VIP stick and ball packages - - - that don't even include a ticket to the event...which starts at $589 all the way up to 6-figures.

Your calculator is broke.  You better recheck those numbers.

Let's go Sprint Car Racing!

Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

You don't think Tony is going to sell 125,000 tickets at $80 each? wink

If it's that easy, why isn't everyone doing it?

Hello hoseheads. Long time listener, first time caller.

So I couldn't disagree more actually with the original poster. So much so that I felt inclined to actually register for a name and make a post about it. That amount of dumb $hit that gets said on this board is crazy.

I still have my ticket stub from the original million in 2001. It was $85. Says it right on the ticket. So 22 years later and we're actually paying LESS than a ticket to the original million. That doesn't exactly scream GREED to me. Might even be a little on the CHEAP side? Using the inflation argument, the $85 ticket in 2001 is more like $142 today --- https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm.

Heres a thought. I'm sitting here looking at my Knoxville nationals invoice. My tickets  were $220 per person for all four days. My renewal I just got for Eldora comes out to $210 for all four days of the million and kings royal week.

Here's where it gets fun. Knoxville's total purse for all four days according to their website is $1,002,605.

Eldora's purse for the Thursday night million alone is $1,400,000 and the total purse for all four of their days is over $2,000,000 per the million race press release.

So my Eldora tickets are cheaper than my Knoxville tickets. but the total Eldora payout is double that of Knoxville.

I'm not saying Knoxville is greedy either. That's not my point at all. My point is just to show you that your argument is nothing but weak sauce.

And ps show your math on 10 million in ticket sales. My calculator tells me at $210 for all four nights, they'll need to average almost 50,000 people per night. I don't know what the place holds but I'm pretty sure it's not that much LOL

To make $10,000,000 on 30,000 seats tickets need to be $333 each.

Even though I may not know you, I

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save sprint car racing, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the World of Outlaws. Thank you very much.

I can tell you with fact that a prominent Central Pa racetrack was very close to hosting a very big race this season. However, it was determined that even with a huge sponsor involvment and more partners, that there was little to no real way to make a profit on the event to where it would make sense without gouging the fans pockets.

It'a not really a greed thing, but more so just simple economics. When you pay that much for an event, you need to find a way to recoup that money and then some or the event doesn't make sense. Car counts will be high, fans will come in droves....but we're talking a lot of money they need to make just to cover the purse. And that doesn't include employee wages, electricity, water, permits, etc.

The thing that comes into play is....someone has to take the hit for this event to work. And they have decided the fans will be ok being the ones. Judging by the interest across the country, I'd say many are ok with it too. Me personally, It's a hard pill to swallow. But it's a neseccary one for the event to thrive and to not kill the track's profits along the way.

Many thanks of us don't think twice about paying $35-45 to see the WoO or $25-30 to see a Speedweek show, which features a fraction of the purse Eldora is putting up. I hope they are successful.

Is anyone camping?  Where is the best place to camp to at least have water and electricity?  Cottonwood Lakes is already booked for the event, and my fear is that most the them are.  Thanks in advance.

I camp at the track there is no water or electricity 69$ for the week. I bring generator and they will fill your fresh tank for a fee.  Plus they will suck your black/grey tank for a fee.

Watch out armyduke!!  They may be trying to make a profit off of you vs. giving you the spot at cost---or below cost.   Greedy bastards!

RIGHT!!!!  I mean it's just parking on the grounds/grass that's already paid for by Tony, Greedy, Greedy!!!!!!   Did I mention $10 bag of ice??? lol.. Can't wait.  24 seats purchased and 4 camping spots for 4 days of our family.  Our money pays for 2nd place Friday night I believe, or 18th place Thursday.  I'd happily pay more, wouldn't miss it for the world.
