I watched a clip of this scuffle this morning and there's more to it than just too many people trying to help.  Something set the official off but it's not clear what from the video.  Just speculating but it could be a long-term issue that he finally got fed up with, or he could have just snapped.  Be interested to hear "official" accounts from all involved (TSR and WoO) when the investigation is complete.

Sheldon flat late in race.  The official was trying to quad him backwards thru pit opening but car got pinned against wall.  Schatz crew guy went out and yelled to the official to stop and they got the car to work area.  While the tire change was ongoing the official jumped in and grabbed and tackled schatz crew guy.  Official got feelings hurt over words and decided to attack the dude during the tire change. Hope he is an ex official now.

According to others your explanation is spot on.

How about Ripper....people fighting and falling over him and he never skips a beat getting Sheldon back out.

Long time coming from what I hear.  The officcial thinks he's the God out there but he's obviously not very bright to attack Schatz's guy with a drone above him . There was a lot of tension just a few minutes earlier when they wouldn't let Macedo back out yet when Sweet wrecks he seems to get almost unlimited time to fix it and get back out. Macedo had a tube ripped out of the frame so they wouldn't let him continue but that rule only seems to apply to certain people too.

Racing is a high tension emotional sport......gotta love it.

The emotion and adrenaline is the drug that keeps us doing it.   There is no way that macedo car would or should be allowed out on the track with the frame broke on both sides that's for sure

It's way past time to get rid of the 'let's rebuild the entire car during a caution' nonsense. If you can get your bent up shit box back on the track during the normal time it takes to get everyone lined back up fine, but do we really need 50 guys patching up a car so they can go back out to pick up 3 spots to gain those valuable Winston Cup points?

You had a bad night, load that shit up and come back tomorrow.

Direct quote from last night:

"That stupid @ss official, they've got a stupid @ss official that can't drive. You know we set there, the WoO officials tried to push the car back to the work area. He shoved me right into the fence. Sure enough we got damage. He is a fat qu--ry son of a b-tch, little son of a b-tch I ought to get his neck. Then he wants to use this WoO shirt that says authority you know the little son of a b-tch probably makes 175 a week which is fine, but he has this shirt on and then he's authority, he's got all this power, well then he just wants to go attack crew members. Well he f-cked up. And he can kiss my d-ck, and if I get the chance he's going to."

"I'm alright. Cars tore up. Thanks."

If he's Carlton Reimers son that would make him Ted Johnson's  grand son.

It appears more guys are figuring it out that with a few laps to go and  you carsh it's better just to park it rather than to go back out and wreck more stuff, finally.

At Port Royal last night Justin Wittal brought out the caution twice and they lined him back up for the third time. ......The third time a caution came out that he was involved in they hauled a pretty torn up race car off the track.  Parking him would have saved him all kinds of money.

We have all seen an extra line up lap benefit some of the top drivers that people pay to see come from the back.Gravels run was excellent and Sheldon can do the same thing. From police officers to paid officials the badge doesnt make them right.Emotions can run pretty high but the days of physical contact doesnt happen very often.

Thanks for the link. Official jacked up on nos drink, not sure a sponsor will tolerate that. Me thinks he will be looking for a new job. I get the emotion part but the tweet was also disappointing and unprofessional. I'm tired of all the work area BS too, sprint car racing was just fine without work areas and uncertain time limits while visiting there. BTW, how about those drones aint they something.

I personally know how I would handle it it would fair to everyone . It' very simple no work area at all no ifs ands or buts if you get a flat tire go to the trailer . If you get anything you go to the trailer there is no work area problem solved same thing for everyone  Glen Murra

Agree on no work area and they need to get rid of it. Or have a work area but ditch the 2 minute clock. Once they are lined up again throw the green.

I was thinking the same thing when the 44 went to the pits and came back out. SW races pay $700 to start and if he manages to pick up a couple spots in the last few laps, he's still probably going home with $700 or not much more. Why risk it? Why burn off more fuel and tires and engine wear? Sure enough he got caught up in Whitall's 2nd spin. My conclusion was racers just wanna race regardless of logic. If they can get back on the track they will.

Agreed! 2 lap rule for the 1st half of the A main is reasonable. No guaranteed time past half way.
