Obviously alot can change in a year and not everyone who was there in 2022 will be back. But I think w/ $250k on the line and $5k to start, it'll start becoming like the Royal and the Nationals where just about everyone good is there. A few names....

Marks, Courtney, Eliason, Peck, Wise, Dom Scelzi, Golobic, Corey Day (maybe), Ryan Timms, Macri (maybe)

This is assuming Skagit is smart and moves the date of the Dirt Cup. 60 seems easy to get to, I wonder if they can go higher?

Basically what you're advocating is a bidding war between a long standing west coast event and a new event.  Skagit Should move their traditional crown jewel to a different week because a new event was started in the upper Midwest?

Perhaps it's getting to the point where we should accept the fact that Sprint Car racing is getting more like Dirt Late Model racing where there are enough cars to support multiple series along with regional series that hold big events simultaneously.  I live 4 1/2 hours from Husets and like the racing there but 50 cars was plenty.  Courtney won over $70k in Washington not long after Sheldon collected $100k.  Eliason was there in the 26 as was Madsen and lives in Knoxville.  As much as I like Husets and big paying events if the goal is to force those other events to change their dates have they won the battle but lost the war?  I am hoping to get down there for at least one night next year but I'm fine with 50 cars and happy long time fans at Skagit.  If you've ever had a favorite event that was originally on a down weekend that drew big names and other tracks saw it's success and scheduled against it you'll understand my thinking.  The Nationals are an exception because of 60+ years of tradition.  People plan their year around it and only have so much vacation and typically spend the week there.

Speaking of tradition Jackson is only a few hours up the road from Knoxville and they have moved their Nationals back to the traditional week after Knoxville date.  Let's see what the result of that move is.  I attended the Jackson Nationals the week after Knoxville several times.  Some would guess that 100 cars would haul up there after Knoxville but that was never the case.  Some are obligated to points at their local tracks, others have to be to work Monday after Knoxville and the reasons could go on.

Anything is possible and my wife reminds me how often I'm wrong so maybe every 410 Sprint in the country will be at Husets next year and I'll be proven wrong about this as well.  One other thought, the Husets regulars deserve a bigger than usual payday.  Some of them tore up cars and blew motors supporting the event and that could affect the car count for a week or two of their regular shows.  I like seeing those guys having a shot at a bigger payday.  The question becomes is the purse increase intended to reward the 50 cars that support it or increase the field to 100+?  By my way of thinking if the intent is to reward participants the increase is spread through the field.  A too heavy purse can get fans excited because the equate dollars to more cars.  All I know is that I spent the last four nights watching some good racing and enjoyed it.  No demands, 24 cars is a full field and I went to bed fat and satisfied.  Whatever direction it goes it looks like this race is here to stay and I want to be there but it's the same as Nationals, can't do those $1,000 weeks solo.

411 - similar to the Trophy Cup, the Dirt Cup does jockey back and forth on the schedule a lot. The two Dirt Cups previous to this year were on the 3rd week in June, while the two before that were on the 4th weekend.

Stan, I've been to a Dirt Cup that was June 17-19. There's no reason why it can't be that weekend again. You pay $250k to win, you should get some cooperation and flexibility

I don't understand why people think it's such a big deal that there might be another good paying race the same weekend that is 1500 miles away. How many racers didn't go to Skagit because they were racing at Husets last weekend?

Maybe they will come to an agreement, I'll likely never attend a race at Skagit and very few at Husets anymore so whatever they do is fine with me.  I have no input beyond speculation based on a fairly good understanding of the racing scene close to where I live.  I'm fine with 50 cars, a normal weekend around here is sitting through Hornets, Super Stocks, Pure Stocks, B Mods, Mods and some kind of Late Model class to see a dozen and a half limited Sprints.  I liked 50 cars at Husets, enough cars for a C & B most nights, some of the locals did well and it wasn't a marathon of alphabet soup like the Nationals or Chili Bowl.  I'm probaby one of those rare ones who would rather see 50 than 100.  The way I look at it if 50 show up maybe 15 have a very good shot at winning.  If 100 show up it's still probably around 15 who are going to be there in the end.  The difference is that with the 50 we sit through a lot fewer semi Features than we do with 100 and the Outlaws are going to rise to the top 99.9% of the time.  I would rather cut to the chase and not see another 50 cars.  If people think they had to work the track a lot with 50 cars they better hold onto their beer because it would rubber up twice as much.  Whatever happens is OK with me but I don't care for a bunch of meaningless semi Features.

I don't understand your obsession with this race. I agree with Stan why the fuss about races that are half the country away in either direction. Only a couple of cars and a dozen fans would change their plans. The only thing Pa. shuts down for is Knoxville and there will  still be races somewhere here that week. We have extra purse races here within an hour of one another. Both get cars and fans.

Let me guess, you're from PA?

My "obsession" stems from the fact that it will be the largest winner's share in the history of the sport. But to each their own.

Any race anywhere short of the Knoxville Nationals that gets 55 or 60 cars will be ok no matter what it pays.

Ford has it right the biggest thing is the payout . If it's all at the top(Money) they'll have 45-50 cars . If it pays good down the line maybe have 70 or 80 that's up to Tod and Doug           Glen Murra

Get rid of the combined points. Take a driver's best night, some of them actually have jobs.

I could swear that I saw Jac win $250k at Eldora in 2003.  Me and about 20,000 others.

You also just saw my worn out old memory at work.  My point is still valid, next year will be a record and Jac won 2x as much as Sheldon did last weekend.  wink
