Nice photo!

I'm looking at an 18 year old sprint car and trying to pick out some of the things that have changed.

Cockpits are now more enclosed
The top rollbars extend further towards the back

What else can you see in this picture that has changed in 18 years?

Thanks for the compliment on the pic. Smokey was such a nice guy.

This is a picture of him with a Super Sportsman.

We don't have those on the upper plains. Isn't a super sportsman along the line of a limited sprint car?

Yes. Very, very similiar to sprint cars, think they have square bottom frame rails and are self-starting. I went to Silver Spring one time in the 80s when Lincoln got rained out. I was thrilled with the racing. Went back several times afterward. Silver Spring is gone now.

Aren't some of the cages taller ie. more head room for the driver?

Similar, yes, there are also differences.  The frame is square on the bottom, no front wing, a much smaller top wing, no power steering. They have a  358 engine and a carburator.

Did he win that day? I remember going to Silver Spring for a day race and then onto Lincoln afterwards back around then and Smokey won in that car.
