Just curious what the common life on the road life is like for WoO teams. I see haulers with sleeping areas and bus sized motorhomes. I've also heard of crews booking hotels. I know each team is unique. But in general, what does the average team have for the crew and souvenir person etc. How many vehicles are required to get, let's say,  Macedo set up proper for the weekend?

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

I've been waiting for someone to do a documentry on the lives of a WoO crew members, I think it would be so compelling.

And I want it raw and uncensored, complete with all the after hours shenanigans & groupies.

This is something i've always been interested in also, for me i always wondered in Donnys situation where he flies to a nearby airport....does that mean a team will meet him at the airport with a car, then drop him back to his plane after racing, or would he spend a couple days living out of the hauler until it was more convenient to get him back to the airstrip.
I know Brad Sweet has changed his home/work life and has focused his lifestyle more like Donny's and will fly to the tracks. Same deal i guess, team pick him up from an airport with a car possibly? I'd love to see a "Drive to survive" style behind the scenes look at outlaw life.

From my time on a mid to high funded team back in 2005...

The Large RV/Coachs belong to the drivers and are used by them.

We always stayed in hotels 2 to a room, the sleeping areas in the rig were only used for back to back nights with some distance between shows, those were definitely the roughest nights race, packup, car wash then head to the next town get to a hotel shower get a 2-3 hour nap then check out and head to the track.

Food was a tough part as well, hotels that have Semi parking arent usually in a bustling area, when your the other side of the country only racing weekends its a long week in a hotel parking lot. In 05 before Uber, Postmates, etc. you were lucky if there was fast food or has station next to the hotel if not you ordered enough pizza to get you by through the week. some weeks if the driver came in a day early they would have a car and that would get you away from the hotel. some places you could walk to a grocery store and stock up the mini fridge with some stuff.

those were the average weeks, it really depends where you are when you were in the right locations someone had a buddy, sponsor, race fan that would come around and loan us a vehicle or take us to lunch/dinner to break up the holiday inn express grind.

hours sucked pay sucked but had a hell of a time and would recommend it to anyone!

I'm also fascinated by the life of an Outlaw team, Flo does some good behind the scenes stuff during Ohio Speedweek, DirtVision should definitely branch out more into the off-track stuff.

The T-shirt trailer, which is obviously an important source of income must be a gigantic pain in the ass too. Granted you don't have maintenance on the car etc.. but it's still the same miles, still have to unload/pack up every night etc...

A few weeks before the World Finals, Bobby Allen text me to see if they could stay at our shop leading up to the World Finals.  I said yes of course.  We cleaned up my shop to park their cars inside, and cleaned my truck.  When they arrived, they cleaned the whole time pretty much.  I gave them my truck and they just spent a few days chilling around town.  The drivers stayed close to the speedway in their motorhomes mainly getting their souvenirs ready for one more big weekend.

The T-Shirt trailer is the retail "Outlaw" while the show is the sprint car "Outlaws."  Gibson, the voice of the Outlaws travels around in his motorhome, while the T-Shirt trailer is manned by Wes Irwin, who runs "Big Blue."  He has a YouTube site as well as a Twitter account, which does "The Moose LZ Morning minute."  He talks about being on the road all the time.  Good stuff.

I follow many of the drivers/teams on Twitter and you will similiar stories through out the year.   Either of them staying at somebody's shop or somebody staying with them at their shop.   I know that Kenny Wallace's shop is a favorite of many people.   Also remember people staying at Haud's shop as well.

as a front desk manager at a hotel, last year ( summer of 2021) i had the pleasure of Dom Scelzi and his family staying at my hotel while racing at Husets...it was the weekend he drove Dobmeiers car.  Also had carson macedo stay as well on a different occasion, and they even fired up the car in our parking lot........as a race fan it was great to merge work and play
