The new Sprint Car and Midget magazine arrived last week and I've enjoyed listening to some of the songs I might not have heard of from drivers listing their music playlist...

I love a variety of music from the 60s country forward...  Even though no one asked me, I decided to come up with my top five songs to help me get jacked up for sprint car racing.

In no particular order...

01.  Lose Yourself - Emimen - The title speaks for itself.  Once you slip the helment on, you have to lose yourself in the moment and own it.  From that moment on, every decision made is the one you made and it will determine if you win or lose.

02.  Hells Bells - ACDC - I'm not sure if it was because the music was so loud at Charlotte or because I was only racing a 360 against the outlaws but I could have sworn I heard Hells Bells as we were doing the 4-Abreast while the fireworks were going off in the back ground.  Everytime I hear that song, memories flood my mind of idleing around the track with all my heros.

03.  Jump - Van Halen - Dad always said if he ever had the chance to start on the pole of the Knoxville Nationals beside Kinser or Schatz, he'd want Jump blasting in his helmet as he's rolling down the back stretch toward the green.  He'd look over at Kinser or Donny and give them a wink knowing he's about to whip their ass.  Dreams are sometimes more fun than reality.

04.  Flirtin' with Disaster - Molly Hatchet - Pete Walton said this was one of his favorite songs during his sprint car days and I had never heard of it.  I listened to it later on, and for some reason, find myself listening to it in my head when I'm racing.  It puts me in a good mood when I'm scared shitless.

05.Redneck Side of Me - Jamey Johnson - I was never a country boy and never close to being a popular prep kid.  I was stuck in a grey area growing up, but spent a lot of time hanging out near the Ag center.  I didn't care for guns.  Didn't care to fish.  I'd rather buy carrots than grow them.  So when I heard this song, it helped me establish an existance I needed.  I might not have the courage to kill a deer, but I'll flat foot it around Lancaster Speedway on Saturday night in a heart beat.

These are my top few.  What are yours?

Good thread.

Number one speedway song for me will always be Kickstart my Heart by Motley Crue. My local track always plays this as the sprintcars are being fired up.

Honerable mentions to Radar Love, and Born to be Wild. As a boy in the 90's the local track would play these throughout the night and get me razzed up.

Kickstart my Heart is awesome.

What about Ace of Spades by Motorhead and  Legion of Dooms "What a Rush".  Chicago Bulls intro?

Always thinking that Kickstart My Heart was the best one to put to a Sprint Car Video montage but I dug out an old classic that gives it a run for it's money. Put on a good set of ear buds or head phones and crank it up, "DRIVIN WHEEL" off of the FOGHAT "Nightshift" album. Lyrics go along with it pretty well too.

I like some of the songs Gibby plays before and after the 4 wide salute. I've been getting into "Are You Ready" by AC/DC this year. It's a song I knew of but never paid much attention to, but now it's in my head alot. I always like when "Born to Run" is played as the 4 wide is ending.

My music isn't everyone's cup of tea - but what I use is generally available on my spotify profile.

Whether it is sprint car racing or any other type of physical activity my top 5 would be:

Enter Sandman - Metallica

No Sleep Till Brooklyn - Beastie Boys

Sound Of Madness -  Shinedown

Cult of Personality - Living Color

Take it All - Pop Evil

I dont get the Ace of Spades connection... I know it is a staple on the WoO broadcast, can you enlighten me... I must be missing something?

That said, I really like that Volbeat tune... Dirtvision was the first place that I ever heard it!
