Love throwback schemes. In all sports. But I don't think they should be used in marqee games/races. I've noticed that the throwback car count for the Nationals goes up every year. And because they're so popular and look so cool, I'm almost afraid that it will be the norm for the Knoxville Nationals to be the throwback weekend.  Especially being tied in to the best appearing car award. I think a throwback weekend would be cool at any race but not the Nationals. That's our Super Bowl and for me it just doesn't feel right being included in the biggest race of the year. Same with Kings Royal,  National Open etc. We don't see NFL teams wearing throwback unis during the playoffs or their Super Bowl. I think it takes away from the seriousness of the biggest race of the year. (Sorry Eldora). And what's gonna happen when the 21 wins? He gonna be standing atop the podium in a purple Super Clean suit? Bet Casey's and FVP would love that.

And so I don't have to say it later.....NO I don't think Brown would be in a purple Super Clean car for a throwback scheme. I was trying to make a point.

Actually I don't notice that many throwback schemes at the Nationals, but quite a few guys definetly have special schemes.   A couple of years ago I remember Sheldon having a primarily red scheme.   I also remember Ian Madsen's car that was red on one side and blue on the other and I loved it.    Obviously this year we will see Jac's Pennzoil throwback and I remember in the past seeing a Weikert throwback.   I don't really care one way or another myself.

I could care less if they spray painted the cars with primer and taped the numbers on them as long as they continue to go fast and turn left on dirt I'm happy.  Music during the four wide, painted and wrapped cars, throwback schemes, it's still all about the racing.

I hate throwback anything, especially for the largest events as mentioned. It seems like Ohio State rolls out some goofy clown outfit for The Game against Michigan every other year which ruins the asthetic.

These Gladiators should be writing their own legacy, not living in someone else's. JMO

Now, Jac's #22 is obviously pretty cool, but he should be running a 1994 Maxim with a Gaerte or whatever he was actually running back then. And the Buckeyes should have to wear actual unifoms or at least the same fabric & technology from 1968 or whatever yerar they are throwing back to.

But hey, I know, it's all about the merch.

Do you seriously think anyone with a Major sponsor like FVP, or Casey's would not have it okayed with them before they did it? Same with anyone else, you always double check with sponsors before you do anything. Also throwback schemes are an amazing idea, makes this race that much more anticipated for me. Always remember going to the races and looking to see who has a new scheme for the Nationals. Special schemes at the nationals has always been a big thing. this should help raise it to the next level with fans!

Count me in with some special paint for the Nationals.  It doesn't change the fact that it is still all about the racing, but what's wrong with a little extra fun?  And if you don't like the thread, exercise some self control and don't tell us.  We care not.

turn4guy - When you need it clean, Super Clean!  Still use it and still use the free rain ponchos from Brownie.

How about Brad Furr's Sanmina circuit board car?  Or Brooke Tatnell's "fire" scheme (#8)?  The King in the "chrome" car although I thought it would have been cool the last time out to fly the Valvoline or Quaker State colors but sponsorship rules the day on these deals.  Ian's red/blue car that was actually painted was very cool.  Donny in the STP livery with the red wheels was neat.

I'm with you. A little change up & Variety doesn't hurt a thing.

Kinsers Superman car was a good one. Especially when Haud followed it with the Kryptonit Car.

Ryan Buntons car a few years ago with all of the Soliers on the Wing was neat.

I wonder if anyone has ever ran transparent Body Panels on a Sprint car before? Maybe there's not such a thing!

If they shouldnt break out a special paint/vinyl scheme at the Nationals then when?  Not sure the original poster was complaining about throwbacks but man it sure seems that people look for something to bitch about.  except for jekyl and hyde, you know word for word what they will talk about.

I saw a clear plastic top wing on a car once.

I realize this might be shocking but I will follow the Nationals and probably get the Saturday night finale regardless of the graphics, music or any other window dressing they throw on top of the biggest race of the year.  No arguements, just don't care either way, it turns some people on so I guess it's all good.  wink

I think it's a fun thing to do for a special race. It's not like NFL b/c there are many race teams, not two. Sponsors change all the time so it's not a PRO team logo that rarely changes.

Somebody needs to do a Carmen Manzardo throwback scheme. Now that would be cool.
