I was listening to the Dale Earnhardt Jr. podcast the other day (which is very good BTW), and Danny's name came up. The guest of the show was retired Cup driver Ernie Irvan, and he mentioned that he hangs out with Danny Lasoski quite a bit and they play poker together.
They live near each other down in Ocala Fla. Thought that was interesting.

That is cool. I listened to brief segments of that interview on youtube but not the part about hanging around with the Dude. Ernie came close to checking out in that bad crash, I remember when that happened. It's good to see him alive and having a quality life as things could have been much different if fate had not been with him that day.

I was in attendance when he got his final Cup win of his career at the scene of the crime in Michigan. He was pretty emotional.

I'm, not one to listen to podcasts but I hear some are pretty informative. I always wondered what Ernie is doing these days? I've followed his nascar career from about 1990.. .Its nice to read that he is ok.

Your are right saphead, I just watched that episode a bit ago. Very entertaining. Dale does a great job.

I hated Earnhardt as a driver and I hated Stone Cold as a wrestler... They have the two best podcasts besides Open Red on the internet. Every eposide brings back some many great memories.

I won't say I hated Earnhardt Jr. as a driver, but I always thought he was very overrated. Not a bad driver. I would say a good driver vs. very good or excellent. I never put much value on a driver who won mostly restrictor plate races---which is why Daytona does not excite me much. (i.e. Michael Waltrip) That seemed to be more aerodynamics than driver skill.
However, he was a good guy and still is. I also never thought he had much upstairs either. But, after listening to him on his podcast, he does a great job, asks the right questions, never searches for words, and sounds like a natural for that type of show. Really impressed. I am going to be a regular listener/watcher.

he was a victim of the popularity from his last name. he was given greatness almost automatically which i don't think he every really asked for or expected from anyone. honestly it didn't seem like he enjoyed driving much especially if you listened to him on the scanner. he seems to enjoy the hell out of all the stuff he's doing now.
you do wonder what he could've done had dei not fallen apart. that was a top team before his dad died. hendrick wasn't that strong while he was there either...which is one of my concerns with larson going there. kyle should take whatever chance he gets and taking the ride of a 7 time champion in the 48 sounds like a great idea. i'm just not sure that organization is that much better than ganassi right now.

Dale Jr. is a very down to earth, thoughtful person. If you want a really good listen, go back and check out his appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast from about 2 years ago. He goes into great detail about his concussions and their affect on him. It is very interesting stuff.
