The city wanted to see if there is a demand for special events at both the Bricktwon ballpark and the grandstands. The demand would make way for renovations for both. This was reported on KFOR in Okc.

Sounds to me like a way to test and deem "unsafe for use" so they can go ahead and tear the stands down. Hopefully I'm wrong, but to me it's just weird that after wanting to shut the deal down so bad they now want to renovate it?

but there isn't that much wrong with the structure of the grandstand.........some of the buildings we did asbestos removal out of looked on the verge of collapse.....we fugured we were clearin it before they demo'd or renovated........they still have not done either - and no plans in the works to do so.

that grandstand is in very good shape for its age........in fact I don't really see any problems with it structurally. No cracks or anything of that nature. I don't think the city wants to be that dumb. It should be made known who they will have inspect it............. If they want to do somthin with it they would claim imminent domain outright instead of tryin to sell some bs like the grandstand might be un-safe. For heavens sake I feel more comfortable all round at SFS grandstand - than I do OU's Football field or the Ford Center.......if you lean to far forward at either you're liable to take a nosedive...........I trust the grandstand more than any facility that was made with the sole intent of packin in as many seats as possible and then some.

I for one would love to see improvements made to the speedway. Mainly upgrades to the grandstands, sound system, and score board. I also feel the grandstands itself should be named "BUD CARSON MEMORIAL STADIUM" the track would still of course be State Fair Speedway, or Fairgrounds Speedway, if you prefer.

That is only my opinion. I'm sure there are others that have their own ideas.

The only outdoor special event venue I see taking place (besides racing special events) is outdoor concerts. The city don't make any money from the Zoo's outdoor concerts. I really don't see any other idea except the city taking offers to host big-time special race events (WoO sprint/late models, USAC midgets, USMTS, etc.)

Man I didn't even get the local conspiracy theorist on board with me on this one, I hope all of you are right. To go along with the renaming of the track we could have like a "Cheese21 Concession Stand" or something. They would only serve mexican food and Dr. Pepper (and maybe iced tea for JD). And I get to eat free...I hope Lanny reads this and adds it to the improvements for next year, I really think it would draw the crowds.

Would anyone like to guess the largest event ever held in front of the grandstand?  Hint....it took place in the late '50's.  Seems to me it would still be a viable venue for that sort of event again.

Bingo!  Oooops....that would be the Catholics, not the Baptists.  BG drew over 200,000 over the course of several weeks of sometimes twice a day revivals.  Unfortunately, people now days require air conditioning and padded chairs.  However, for large meetings of that kind, the grandstand is still a viable option if the price was right.  It would certainly work for a concert, because they used to hold them there every summer.

A Dr. Cheese Pepper Burrito sounds pretty good. But I'll bet you wish you had ordered a bowl of Ice Cream and a roll of Ultra Soft Charmin instead of the So-papilla, for the aftermath.

I hope they bring the brisket the first week!

Uncle A, if the foods free, I can stomach it.

I wondered what that funny smell coming from your car was. I thought it was illegal fuel, but now we know. LOL

You could have known that by looking at my straightaway speed compared to 90% of the cars out there.
