Good points
2 questions: A) Where do you live? (B) Do you think you might have not worn your mask due to "social pressure"? If i go to a race i want to enjoy it, not have to put up with insults or arguments...
|
I live in Illinois. (I know, thanks for the sympathy) I've been to 2 races at Knoxville, so Iowa is a bit different right now. Our state "requires" a mask in places where social distancing is not possible. So, I was just at the local grocery store this afternoon and put my mask on. Everyone inside had a mask on. The grocery store owner has enforced the mask policy. If you aren't wearing a mask when you get to the check-out, you aren't going to be getting your groceries. However, I went to the local bar for a beer. Only 5 people inside. No masks on anyone and the bar owner refuses to wear one or make his patrons wear one. It's really hit or miss in rural IL. Most of the residents in my town are farmers or work in the farm industry. So, needless to say, we are in a little bubble out here as to what goes on in the rest of the world. Myself, I work at a local college. So, we have to wear a mask on campus at all times unless we are in our offices. Also, students must have a mask on to talk to us. There is an incredible difference between the atmosphere I work in and the atmosphere I live in. (before anyone takes the next statement the wrong way, I grew up on a farm as a farmer and my dad still farms) My farmer friends and family seem to be blowing this all off while the folks I work with in the professional world seem to be taking it seriously and trusting those with backgrounds in health and disease. In my small town, if you walked into the bar with a mask on, you would be insulted and probably told to leave. However, if you walk into my work 15 miles away, and don't have a mask on, you would be insulted and told to leave. We live in a world of divide right now. So, do you want to trust the disease expert farmers or the actual disease experts? I'll leave the farming up to the farmers and the health updates up to the health experts.

Some governors and mayors said when they opened that they wouldn't shut down again. I think if things take a turn for the worst they won't have a choice. Meanwhile I put in a mesh wifi boosting system for a couple hundred bucks because it was obvious I'd be spending a lot of time in the lower level family room watching PPV. I still feel a connection to Cedar Lake after all the work and time spent out there and had originally planned to attend this one before the pandemic when it was a regular two day Outlaw show.
If anyone is going out there this weekend you're in for a treat. Cedar Lake racing is always exciting and their fireworks are epic. Not to mention that my mouth is watering just thinking about the concessions. I'm jealous.
|
You are so right Stan..............no mayor or governor should make that statement. There will be more shutdowns. They will happen in both blue and red states so no politics needed.
To add to your comment about being 69 years old. The ages of the folks I know that were in the ICU: 60, 60 (twin sisters), 61, 59, 69. All healthy. 69 year old did not make it. 59 year old was in for almost a month and his wife says its a miracle he survived. Nurses had to keep "coaching" him to keep breathing. (he and his wife were my bosses for 5 or 6 years so I know them well) He is back home now and doing therapy so one day he will be able to walk 10 feet without having to stop to catch his breath. By the way, he was running up and down the basketball court reffing high school basketball this winter so definitely in shape. Stan, I don't blame you for not leaving your house. In addition to the 5 I know who were in ICU, my 1st cousin in Tampa just came down with it---he is really sick, but will likely be fine as he is only 40 years old. Says it feels like the worst flu he's ever had.
Does anyone need any additional explanation why I am taking this seriously?
I would prefer all tracks required masks and enforced wearing them until you got to your seats. JMO. But, when I get to track full of people, and NO ONE is wearing a mask, why would I put on the damned mask? It's up to the facilites to enforce this. I'm 47 years old so 99.9% chance I'll be just fine. However, I would like to keep seeing the races and I would like the opportunity for guys like Stan to be able to come watch the races. Currently, no one wants to put in the effort to make those two things happen for the long term.

There are also some reports of potential lung damage (possibly irreparable) in COVID19 cases, even in asymptomatic cases. Obviously a lot of research will need to continue to happen but it's quite scary what the long-term affects can potentially be.
This virus really is a shame - what a difficult thing for society as a whole to deal with to begin with, but since it's been fully politicized it's even worse.
Wear your masks, folks. It's not that hard.

I wear a mask when I go shopping but mostly try to order online in advance and pick my order up curbside. I go to the gas station, hardware and auto parts stores if I need something right away or order online when I can wait. I have been around some of the family and work outside in the yard and get on the walking path across the road. That really isn't that much different from my normal routine save for not going in crowds which includes races. I am happy that I can watch it on a nice big screen TV at a reasonable price so no complaints but there is more of an attachment to some events. Everyone has their favorites that they try to never miss. My Cedar Lake Outlaw attendance goes back to around 1980 so it has been a rite of summer.

My son and I were going to go to Cedar Lake this Friday for the first time ever, but cannot get there in time. (he has to work until 4:00 in the afternoon and it's a 5-1/2 hour drive) We are heading to Hayward fishing for 3 days and we were going to try to catch the Friday night show before heading on Saturday morning. Maybe next year!!!

Whether mask on or mask off is correct, I will bet anything that five years from now you will lawyers anvertising on TV. If you wore a mask during the covid-19 crisis and have whatever health problem call us. You could be intitled to compensation.

It's not rocket surgery...uh, it's a worldwide pandemic that doesn't care about your political believes. Think of a mask as the ultimate IQ test.

Don't bet the farm...
Surgeons, dentists, painters & all sorts of other professions wear them all the time & it doesn't hurt them. In fact it helps
But you could be right about the TV lawyers...

Not sure you were ever attactive let alone at 50. lol.
Lots of people at Lincoln tonight maybe 1% were wearing masks. I haven't seen hardly anyone wear a mask at the races I've been to since the reopening of the local tracks. I still see the same people I've seen weeks ago and everybody seems healthy, maybe the race track dirt and dust are keeping us alive.

I had this same argument with someone last week. All the way from the time I was 10 years old through my teens I wore a very heavy mask for hours at a time in a grain bin shoveling dusty corn and we wore masks for hours on end in hog confinement buildings. The health problems come in those situations from NOT wearing one. No healthy individual should have issues wearing a mask. It's all an excuse.

I used to be adicted to fishing and owned a fish house and a boat. I spent a lot of time up by Hayward on the Chippewa Flowage and a few other lakes in that area. If you can't make it to Cedar Lake that is some beautiful country up in that part of Wisconsin so it's still going to be s fun trip. We used to have an annual family Musky trip up there for years but it fizzled out when we all got older.

I don't think the intent of his post was about your rights or safety. It was perception by governors and the very high likelyhood that all of these events are soon going to be shut down again by the health dept's all over the country. I thought Knoxville did a great job with the social distancing efforts a couple of weeks ago. Was it perfect? No. But then again, this isn't the Spanish Flu. Any little thing to keep this slow-burning instead of spiking would be great. The fact that there is still a bunch of chest-pounding going on when everyone has already seen what the governors will do if cases spike is mind boggling. It's like no one cares if it happens all over 2 or 3 more times.

Could not agree more. If you're thst damn worried about this "pandemic " stay the hell home. No need to get on here and stir the pot. "Blood on their hands" give me a break... stop your preaching... stay home and let me live my life. Also please educate yourself and get the facts on this virus. 99.5% survival rate. Get a life.

We're all responsible for our own safety. Do what your comfortable with and I'll continue to do what I have been doing. I don't need people to think for me.
|
bingo, if you are so damn scared stay home.
was at the k-ville 2 day show and the 3 day jackson nationals.
I do not think there are to many people that worried about this hoax. I have not and never will wear a damn mask. what for
we all have to die sometime, this a thinning the herd time in our lives so deal with it however you want but DO NOT tell me how to live my life

Maybe you're onto something. All those big wings create a vortex and blows those pesky germs away. One time that maybe winged racing is actually better for our health but I still prefer non-wing.

Its clear the race fan and most of america for that matter will not mask up. Goverments are passing mask laws and having them overturned. Even if you got a track to require them they would all be around the neck or with the nose sticking out.
Masks are not going to happen. So those that fell they do not need to protect others at the track enjoy the races as those that want to protect you stay home. You say we all can make our own choices but you are making it for them.
My job working with public requires me to wear a mask and the majority of the public respect us by wearing one also. I wonder what make the race track some safe zone free of viruses that those fans that wear masks when they go shopping fell they dont need it at the track.
let it burn. we have no choice without everyone on board.
