Could one of the experts explain something to me if that I am having trouble with undestanding. If this whole thing is so serious, and I am not saying it is not, why are people still going to work? why are planes still flying? why is walmart still open? I could go on and on about things that are not shut down. Why?. Just doesn't make any sense to me if this so bad.

Can you see Mt Rushmore from your back porch?
|
Probably could, if there wasn't 360 miles of clouds in between.

Well, if we're just throwing numbers around and throwing insults around....
Pennsylvania is ranked #11 with the most confirmed cases, but is actually ranked #5 in population. Does that mean Pennsylvania is ahead of the curve?
|
Murphy, Did not intend to insult anyone so please don't take it wrong. I'm Just saying with the population you do have on the Right Coast I would be a lot more concerned in that location versus somewhere like Boise Idaho!!!
I guarentee you I am as big a race fan as all of you and this SUCKS.. Just hope to see some resolve in the near future..
Fingers crossed.....

The Pa. governor was asked today if he would order race tracks that raced last weekend closed. He said, "No. Go on with your lives." Some good news. Bring those sprint cars to Pa.
|
Sorry to report that Lincoln and Williams Grove cancelled for this weekend, Port Royal us closed until April 6 as on now.

I wasn't insulted so there's no issues there. I live IN South Dakota, in a city somewhat smaller than Boise Idaho.

Funny that those who say keep politics out of it are the same ones who keep throwing the jabs at every opportunity. Remember when our President was called a racist for stopping travel from China too quickly. A move many experts outside twitter and message boards say bought us much needed time. Yea I didn't think anyone remembered that either. Many of the mistakes I hear about are to have happened before China left the worlld know it was going on. If you want to blame someone blame China Not Republicans or Democrats.
|
A) No politics!
B) But since you brought it up, it was pretty clear Trump is a racist when he said "there are good people on both sides" about the Neo Nazi/ White Supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va. One of the bigots drove his car into a crowd of counter protesters & killed one of them
C) I never heard anyone call him a racist about Chinese travel ban
D) No politics!

A) I didn't bring it up, you can find digs all through these threads.
B) If you didn't hear him called a racist over the China travel ban you were not paying attention early on.
C) I generally don't get into politics, in fact will unfollow anyone from either side who talks politics on my facebook page.
D) All that said I don't listen well to demands, anyone who knows me knows that.
E) If you want to talk sence about most any subject I can be found in section c row seventeen seats 21-26 at most Port races, I don't hide but will only have a reasonable conversation and will not argue politics with anyone from either side.

B). I typically agree with your comments on this forum and especially don't like getting involved in politics, but since you brought it up, here's the real story, not the one reported widely by the mainstream media. Trump wasn't referring to the KKK and Neo Nazis. He was referring to the southern heritage folks there to protest the removal of historical civil war statues. Fake news can not only be just what shows up in print, but what doesn't show up in print. Just like the moronic notion that Trump was referring to the corona virus as a hoax. What he was calling a hoax was the weaponazation of the situation by democratic politicians for political purposes.
Now back to racing info. Port, Lincoln, Williams Grove, Selinsgrove, and BAPS have all cancelled for this weekend.

I am not quite sure if you're pointing the finger at me or making an observation with my post. I am not bringing politics in. I said our President made a mistake and, in my eyes, has since done a pretty good job. Not perfect, but who really could at this point? I don't think saying a human made a mistake is the same as playing politics. At some point we should be able to hold someone accountable without assuming we are playing the democrat vs. republican card.
While we're at it--------I know the dems and repubs are taking jab after jab after jab at each other. But the message remains the same from all of them if you read between the jabs. Stay home as much as possible. Keep your kids at home as much as possible. Stay home period if you, or someone in your house is sick. They are all closing bars and restaurants----dems and republicans. They are all closing schools. They are all taking this seriously. They may have different opinions on who's to blame, if enoughs being done, etc, but the fact remains they all agree on the steps that must be taken. So, we can kinda end the "overblown" "hoax" and "conspiracy" talk from either side of the aisle.

Italy sitting at a 7.7% mortality rate currently. 27980 cases confirmed, 2158 deaths. Very much hoping there's some kind of reason that would lead this number to be high - confirmed testing numbers underrepresented, one segment (ie: elderly) disproportionally impacted. Not a good look here.
|
Right on---I agree with Kingpin. Testing, testing, testing. Cases are going to skyrocket before they fall. The old "up like a rocket, fall like a feather"
Testing will soon reveal a much nicer picture in this country as well as far as mortality rate goes. Now, we just need to "survive" the surge for our hospitals.

They are reducing the spread by severely limiting contact. It would make things MUCH worse if we allowed society to completely shut down. The modelers know the impact this will have. They cannot end this outbreak. They can only get it to a controllable, traceable level. This is going to be circulating for a long, long time.

I respectfully disagree with pretty much every thing you just said. if they were severely limiting contact I wouldn't be going to work, flying on planes, going to a store, going to a restaurant, going to a hotel, and going to a pool hall along with many other things that aren't being restricted. I am not saying I am doing all of those things but I could if I wanted to. China shut down the country and went from thousands of cases a day to around a couple of dozen so I am not sure how it would be MUCH worse here. They also do not know what the impact will be. They can only give an estimate. Especially when some states do one thing and other states do another. This outbreak will end like all the others before it. In God I trust. Not the government nor the media.

I like responses that start with "I respectfully disagree."
I'm surprised those things haven't been limited for you yet. Where are you located?
It's taking a while, but states are falling like dominos shutting down sporting events, schools, bars, restaurants, etc. Our bars and restaurants in IL closed at 8:00 last night and are closed for 15 days. Kinda weird driving through town tonight seeing everything closed. Everything but grocery store and gas stations. (bars and restaurants are allowed to serve take out and delivery of food, beer, wine, etc) We're getting there nationwide ---but too slow in my book.
They aren't going to completely stop it. The trick is to pick the places that create the most mass spread and limit as many of those activities as possible. Sporting events, bars, school, and restaurants are likely 4 of the 6 biggest places to spread disease----with mass transportation and work being the other 2? (I am just pulling that out my ass, but it kinda sounds about right doesn't it?) So, if you eliminate 4 of the 6, that is a major cut to the spread and severely limits contact---relatively speaking. This ain't gonna be completely stopped until it runs through the population. That doesn't mean we all get it. Just enough so it stops finding a way to jump from host to host. Estimates are 25%-70%. Lesser amounts with control and higher amounts with no control.
I just read an article put together by researchers studying outbreaks in multiple countries along with the Diamond Princess. They said 1/2 of the passengers on the Diamond Princess that tested positive did not even show symptoms. This is the double-edged sword. Lower death rate, but nearly impossible tracing of spread. This is making them rethink the Wuhan death rates. They are putting the death rate MUCH lower and the actual number of infected MUCH higher. However, one fact that does not need numbers is the complete over-taking of the hospitals. That is not going to change as it was right there in front of them.
There are holes in our approach but we have responded much better than China was able to early on and we are responding much better than Italy did early on. We lag behind South Korea on the other hand.
It will be interesting to see how it pans out for Brazil. They are running 80 degree temps with humidity. Brazilian government is all but refusing to kill their economy to fight the disease. This will be a true picture of how this disease will spread unchecked during our summer. If they have an explosion of cases, we're f#$%ED for early-summer.

The most accurate unbiased information I have found about the virus was on the Joe Rogan show. Joe interviewed an infectious desease researcher from the University of Minnesota who has worked with administrations from both parties so it's not politically biased. This is the science and this interview dispells a lot of the misleading information going around. https://youtu.be/E3URhJx0NSw

Wow. If he's right, there won't be a 2020 sprint car season---at least not til fall. I don't think the guy is blowing smoke up everyone's ass either. Hopefully, when he says this will be a problem for 3-6 months, he means until it is completely gone---not when we hit the peak of the infections.
