ELLEN ELLIS MEMORIAL JAR OF CHANGE AT WESTERN WORLD
In honor of superfan Ellen Ellis, “Wags” Ken Wagner, Steve Lafond, and “The Tempe Tornado” Lealand McSpadden are raising money for the “Ellen Ellis Memorial Jar of Change.” Formerly known as the “Lafond Jar of Change,” this year’s award will go to the USAC/CRA hard charger at the November 16th finale of the “52nd Annual Western World Championships” at Arizona Speedway.
The first “jar of change” was awarded to Harlan Willis in 1992 as the hard charger of “Wagsdash.” Completely made of fan donations, Willis earned an extra $200 for his efforts and last year, Ryan Bernal received $1170.50 in his “jar of change.” The “jar of change” winner also gets a handle of Crown Royal with a unique label.
To this day, the “jar of change” continues to be raised by fan donations, tshirt sales, and other special promotions. Since 1992, Wagner and his “Wagtimers” have given out a total of $19,817.48 in the various “jars of change” with the highest amount reaching $1630 in 2012.
To contribute to this year’s “jar of change,” contact Ken Wagner at [email protected], or see him at the “Western World Championships” on November 15th and 16th.
