It seems like interest in sprint cars builds right up until the Knoxvill Nationals. Right after that, interest seems to drop to nothing. Labor Day rolls around and interest cuts in half again. Pretty soon, the hot topic is the bathrooms at Port Royal. What else is left for big sprint car races yet this year?

West Coast has tons of racing left in Sacramento/Central Valley areas until early Novenber icluding Oval Nationals in Los Angeles. Theres a National Midget even in Placerville that pays 20k to win. Lots of racing now thru Turkey Night in West Coast.

The 9th Annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial is this weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway. I believe they have over 60 non-wing sprint cars entered this year and they usually have around that amount of winged 360s show up too. Plus it's at one of, if not the nicest dirt track facilities in the nation. The event grows every year so that's always a nice positive story towards the end of the racing season in the midwest.

Dirt Classic. National Open. Trophy cup. WoO Points battle that is likely to come down to the World Finals in Charlotte.
Sounds pretty good to me.

People that attend races and watch races, also have children and grandchildren. Fall sports such as football, volleyball, club volleyball, fall soccer, and golf are the #1 reason----IMO----for the drop in interest. Summer is busy for all of the club-sports psychos, but for the average sport parent, summer weekends are off. Once school starts again, that freedom ends for a lot of parents.

Wont be long and the Chili Bowl will be the hot topic.Once school starts and college sports are front page.Racing takes a back seat.We all know how big the nationals are but the IowaState vs Iowa game I read was complete sell out plus that many tailgating. Some one said over 100K fans? Last Sunday night a newly reconstructed short track in Mason City Iowa had their first race of the season and had a large turnout of people and cars at an afternoon race featuring B mods ,stock cars hobbies, and the Outlaw Mini mods which were the fastest cars on the track.

Tuscarora 50 sold out, week after Labor Day
Dirt Classic will have a huge crowd
National Open will have a huge crowd and a good field of cars
World Finals will be sold out (yes I know, not just sprint cars)
East Coast Sprint Car racing still pretty hyped. Of course, there is going to be a bit of fall off after the biggest race of the year though which comes a couple of weeks after the 2nd biggest race of the year.
Like was said, this is going to be the best WoO point race since the Jason Meyers years, I think Reutzel might start walking away with the ASCOC point lead. Next up is silly season, which will bring all the idiots out in droves.

If you live in the midwest, there isn't much racing going on. There are some specials after Labor Day (Boone SuperNats, Racesver Nats, Knoxville LM show) but otherwise, there isn't much within 4 hours of Omaha.

Let me guess... you're from Midwest area?
I would have said "Great Plains", but Iowa doesn't fit that category. What do you call Indiana & Ohio anyway? Both on Eastern Time Zone.....

Sioux Falls S.D.- we consider ourselves to be Upper Plains(?) I dunno. I'm kinda jealous of those folks that still have some racing season left. Back before an ego killed local racing, we would have racing up until about now. The local track that did start back up- with RaceSaver Sprints & such- rained out something like 11 times.|
Side note: I was in Indianna a lot of years ago to visit friends. My wife didn't quite pay attention to the signs when you enter the state. She wondered why they called it the Hoser State.

You bring up an interesting pont. All message boards seem to be antiquated. Where do people go to find a variety of info across the board about sprint cars now?

It's OK to ignore racing in other areas...many of us ignore the entire abbreviated Knoxville season until the banner week in the heat of August. Sounds about right. It is the state of Iowa that voluntarily drops off the face of racing while life goes on in the rest of the nation.

I usually use a couple different groups on Facebook, search twitter, and use this board & pitgate board. Can usually find postings about all the events around the country.
I will say though that after attending the Knoxville Nationals the past few years, I do go through a small little depression period even though there are plenty of races going on here in Ohio. I went to the Brad Doty Classic & it was a fun night but i didn't feel the same way I normally do going to the track prior to Knoxville. Before August I'm counting down the days before a race & the excitement builds each day. After Knoxville I usually plan on going to about 5 races but usually maybe make it to 2. Just don't feel the motivation afterwards. Plus all the people I usually go with end up going to football games come September & living in Columbus OH I have to hear about OSU football every waking minute of the day. I am looking forward to 4 crown though.

This may have been true in years past, but some decent Posse cars actually decided to show up this year. Oh wait - are you talking fans?
