ROA GETS THIRD WIN OF 2019 AND HEADS TO VENTURA THIS SATURDAY!
(Cypress, CA, May 2, 2019) The busiest traditional sprint car driver on the West Coast, Garden Grove, California’s Brody Roa, scored his third win of the 2019 season last Saturday night in the “State Classic 48” at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Arizona. This Saturday night, Roa will turn his attention to the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series when it journeys to Jim Naylor’s Ventura Raceway.
Last Saturday the 28-year-old racer and his crew journeyed to the “Copper State” for the second week in a row. The week prior produced a sixth-place finish at the Arizona Speedway and the team was bound and determined to improve over that outing. They started the evening off by posting the eighth fastest qualifying time in the 14-car field with a lap of 14.277. After that, it was a win in the first 10-lap heat race.
The eighth fastest qualifying time could have been problematic as it made Roa start seventh in the 30-lap main event. However, it was anything but trouble as the likable driver started working his magic as soon as the green flag started the race. He was into fifth by the time the field came off turn two on the first lap. Two laps later he was up to third. Patiently working the bottom, he chased down the second-place car to snatch the runner-up spot and set his sights on the leader.
Staying true to the inside line paid dividends to Roa as he took the lead on the seventh circuit and never looked back. He built up a 10-car length lead by lap 11 and was in lapped traffic one circuit later. By the 18th go around he had a half-straightaway advantage. The only thing that slowed him down was a yellow flag on the 25th lap. Once the race restarted, Roa glued it on the bottom where it worked all night long and he raced past the checkered with room to spare.
The victory allowed Roa to leave the “Copper State” with a 38-point lead in the USAC/Southwest Series championship standings. His next outing in the Southwest Series will be on May 18th at the Central Arizona Raceway.
This week Roa comes into Ventura with a 12-point lead in the USAC/CRA standings. In the first four races in the series this year, he has one win, a second place finish and two thirds.
Ventura has been kind to Roa in USAC/CRA competition the past two years. Last year he won the main event at the track that is located mere feet from the shimmering waves of the Pacific Ocean. The year before, he placed third.
In addition to this Saturday’s race at Ventura, Roa will contest two other USAC/CRA races in May. On the 11th, he will be at the Bakersfield Speedway before heading to Perris Auto Speedway for the annual “Salute to Indy” on May 25th.
