CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS SATURDAY AT BAKERSFIELD!
(Torrance, CA, September 5) The USAC/California Lightning Sprint Car Series heads to the Bakersfield Speedway this Saturday night, September 8th, for the third time in 2018. Joining the CLS will be the Western Pro Stocks, Mini Stocks, NMRA ¾ Midgets, Super 4’s and the Outlaw Karts. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 P.M. with racing at 7:00.
After a rainout at the Kern County oval in March, the CLS has made two appearances on the track known affectionately as “The Okie Bowl” this year. The two winners those races produced are at the opposite ends of the spectrum. The first winner in April was teenage star Aiden Lange of Lakewood. Two months later, Ventura’s Bruce Douglass, who turned 67-years-old last month, scored the victory.
One thing that has been a constant for most of the 2018 season is the form of 2010 CLS champion Jarrett Kramer of Spring Valley. The 36-year-old has been on top of the championship standings for most of the season. This Saturday he will bring in a comfortable 211-point lead over Camarillo’s Cody Nigh. In the first 11 races of the campaign, Kramer has two wins and both came at Perris Auto Speedway. In the previous two races at Bakersfield he has a third and a fifth-place finish.
While Kramer has been cruising in championship mode up front, the fight for positions two through five has been a battle royal. Nigh, Brent Sexton of Lakeside, Lange and Gardena’s Dominic Del Monte have been see-sawing back in fourth with those four spots changing every race. Sexton is third and only trails Nigh by four-points. Lange and Del Monte are deadlocked for fourth on 1106-points and they are only 68-markers out of second.
Fans wishing to attend Saturday’s race can find the Bakersfield Speedway at 5001 N. Chester Ext. in Bakersfield (93308). The track phone number is (661) 393-3373 and the website is available at http://www.bakersfieldspeedway.com/
