Stockton Dirt Track announces Asparagus Cup dates for 2019

Stockton, CA – August 29, 2018…Noceti Group Inc. and the Stockton Dirt Track is excited to announce that the second annual “Asparagus Cup” will be expanding next season and is set to occur on Friday and Saturday April 12th and 13th.
The two-night event will be sanctioned by the Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards and once again held in conjunction with the San Joaquin Asparagus Festival. Opening night on Friday will award $10,000-to-win the feature and the Saturday finale will pay out a strong $15,000-to-win. Each night will also be a solid $800-to-start the A-main. Plans are to incorporate a camping package for fans wanting the stay on the fairgrounds during the show. More info will be out soon.
“We are looking forward to making the Asparagus Cup even bigger and better this coming season,” commented Noceti Group President Tony Noceti. “Having the Sprint Car Challenge Tour Winged 360’s compete each night will be great, and we are going to offer an RV package for all the fans as well. The details are still being finalized but we think everyone will have a great time going to the festival during the day and the races at night. The Asparagus Festival also moves up a week next year to the same date as our initial SCCT event this season, which should avoid conflicts.”
The inaugural Asparagus Cup this past April was captured by Australian super-star James McFadden, who piloted the Willie Kahne owned No. 51 machine to the $10,000 score. Gio Scelzi, Tanner Thorson, Sean Becker and Tim Kaeding completed the top-five at the event. With the festival moving a week earlier the hopes are that more drivers and fans have an opportunity to attend the show by minimizing conflicts with other tracks.
The Asparagus Festival was first created in 1985 by a small group of Stockton residents led by Gordon Medlin and Joe Travale, with the backing of Bank of Stockton President Robert Eberhardt. A year later, the first festival was held at Oak Grove Regional Park along Eight Mile Road.
Sprint Car racing this season at the Stockton Dirt Track isn’t done just yet however, as the big 35th annual Tribute to Gary Patterson weekend will invade the venue on Friday and Saturday November 2nd and 3rd.
Opening night for the first time ever will feature a non-sanctioned Winged 360 Sprint Car program, along with the C&H Veteran Ent. presents Hunt Magnetos Wingless Tour and Dwarf Cars. The Winged 360 portion of the night on Friday will pay out a SCCT purse of $2500-to-win and $400-to-start the feature.
The Saturday finale will again be championship night for both the Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards, and the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu 410 Sprint Car Series. Plenty of camping will be available for the weekend on the grounds. As always live music and a car show will help finish off the Nor-Cal season in style on Saturday afternoon. Plans are to also feature an autograph session with several California racing legends of the past.
