10/14/2007 1:29:17 PM PDT "Something about Ron Paul doesn’t smell right. Despite the fact that he appears to advocate core conservative values such as upholding the constitution and limiting government power, instinct tells me not to touch Ron Paul with a ten foot pole. Conservatives understand this. He’s just too kooky. I think it comes down to two possibilities: either Ron Paul is very foolish or he is very evil.
It’s true that on a certain level, tending to our own political and economic affairs here in the U.S. is where we should focus most of our resources. But the cauldrons of tyranny and terror are ever-present in far reaches of the world. When these wicked brews begin to boil over and spill their hateful contents onto our land, that’s the point where we must take action to extinguish the fire at its source. We did so in Japan and Germany sixty-odd years ago, and we are now doing it in Iraq.
Ron Paul’s behavior is consistent with two possibilities. The first possibility allows for the notion that Paul is an honest man with true libertarian beliefs who just doesn’t understand the reality of geopolitics, thus he is basically a kook hopelessly unfit for the oval office. The second possibility is less likely but nonetheless fun for the imagination: Ron Paul is part of a conspiracy, planned for decades, that covertly seeks something sinister—either a Hillary presidency (by means of dividing the conservative vote) or the downfall of the United States."

of all candidates out there, he is the most similar in "look" and "sound" to Ross Perot....and how did that work out for him?

If you consider following the tenets of the highest law of the USA--the U.S. Constitution--as kooky, then I guess Ron Paul is both very foolish and very evil.
More members of the military--current and retired--are financially contributing to Ron Paul's campaign than any other candidate...Democrat or Republican.
Vote for Mitt Romney instead. He will consult with his Attorneys--not the U.S. Constitution and Congress--before going to war.
Or Fred Thompson. Check out his Watergate involvement. Decent actor. Bad Attorney.
Duncan Hunter? Says he supports the troops in Iraq fighting for our freedom and the U.S. Constitution, then declares that he wants to end all financial aid to Columbia University when they exercise their 1st Amendment right and invite the President of Iran to speak at their school. Yeah. Let's just throw out all diplomacy and instead just eliminate anyone we disagree with.
P.S. You should at least acknowledge the radical website you plagiarised your quote from.

Plagiarism??? I didn't claim it as my own, nor did I imply such wholly, or in part? It isn't from a radical website either.
And I know you're not gonna throw the radical website stone ya big glass house dwellin' Sammy Fan (Sammy is The Man)...
Ron Paul's list of supporters (and their radical websites) read like a who's who from the McVeigh, Nichols, Fortier Fan Club....Aaron Russo, Joe Banister, Ed and the lovely Elaine Brown, Casey Lee Cobb, Kyrie Eleison (hella funny pseudo for someone that means Lord have Mercy in Greek), Geoff Metcalf, Dewey Kidd, Bernard von NotHaus, Jason Pratt, Tony Wile, Patrick Briley...I could continue, but why?
Wanna talk about the Liberty Dollar and that scam for a while?
I do not find many of Ron Paul's ideals terribly objectionable however, who was the last idealist to lead this country, and how'd that work out?
Constitutionalism hasn't worked in England, Portugal, Sicily, and it sure as hell didn't work in Iran either my friend!
PS - I liked the other DA dude from Law and Order better than Fred Thompson.

earth to disenfranchised voters - there is a "constitution party" out there for you...and Ron Paul, curious why he never teamed up with them for his run?
http://www.constitutionparty.com/
I think Ron has provided us with some entertainment value...heck, without Gore having a weekly meltdown...or Kerry sticking his wife's foot in his mouth this is turning out for be very boring. Maybe Bill Clinton will "spice" things up a bit...is Monica hanging out in NYC?

It's interesting that your comments generally berate Democrats or liberals, but now you include a true conservative. When all politicians are sworn in, they take an oath to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States" first and foremost. Correct? So if I understand your above statement correctly, you are saying that the U.S. Constitution is not the law of the land and that politicians do not need to abide by it?
In my opinion, Ron Paul is the only candidate that is a conservative through-and-through. Pro-Life. Small Government. Low Taxes (how about no Federal Income tax for Washington to waste). Personal freedom. Individual responsibility.
Michigan holds its primary election February 5, 2008. I'm curious--which Republican candidate do you suggest I vote for and why?

Mikey von Nelliberger brought up a choice I had given very little consideration...Mike Huckabee.
I'd like to get a copy of his book, "From Hope to Higher Ground..." and see what he's all about....what exactly is a constitutionalist with pseudo-populist flavoring???

"Plagiarism??? I didn't claim it as my own, nor did I imply such wholly, or in part? It isn't from a radical website either."
Your statement was in quotation marks and I found it word-for-word on www.freerepublic.com.
That website doesn't espouse the radical, so-called Christian right-wing beliefs that have infiltrated the Republican Party? Sorry. My mistake.
"Constitutionalism hasn't worked in England, Portugal, Sicily, and it sure as hell didn't work in Iran either my friend!"
So the document upon which the United States of America was founded is no longer relevent? The U.S. Constitution is not just a good idea, it's the law of the land.

The quotation marks themselves should lend one to the believe that the statements were other than my own.
That was plagiarized by some anonymous blogger and posted there as his own, and freerepublic.com is only slightly right of center.....right! Christian right-wing I am not however, your candidate shares many similar views as those of your so-called "Christian right-wing." (Should I footnote this and give you props for your earlier post?)
Anarchy seems best suited to describe the "constitutionalism" that the more vociferous supporters of your candidate espouse!
Ron Paul is no John Locke, and he is certainly no Patrick Henry.

Ron Paul might not have a snowball's chance in hell, but what does it really matter...lol? Give 'er hell Ronnie! Besides, Hillary and Obama are probably going to end up being BRR's next commander and chief...

Ronald Ernest "Ron" Paul (born August 20, 1935), is a 10th-term Republican United States Congressman from Lake Jackson, Texas, a physician, and a Republican candidate for the 2008 U.S. presidential election. He has represented Texas's 14th congressional district (1997–present) and its 22nd district (1976–1977, 1979–1985) in the U.S. House of Representatives. Paul placed third in the 1988 presidential election with 0.5% of the vote, running as the Libertarian Party nominee while remaining a registered Republican.
Paul has been called conservative, Constitutionalist, and libertarian. He advocates non-interventionist foreign policy, and voted against the Iraq War Resolution, but voted for the "Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists", passed by the United States Congress on September 18, 2001. He favors withdrawal from NATO and the United Nations; supports free trade but rejects NAFTA as "managed trade"; and opposes amnesty and birthright citizenship for illegal aliens. Having pledged never to raise taxes, he has long advocated ending the federal income tax[2] and reducing government spending by abolishing most federal agencies;[3] he favors hard money and opposes the Federal Reserve. He opposes the Patriot Act, the federal War on Drugs, and gun control. Paul is pro-life, advocates the overturn of Roe v. Wade, and affirms states' rights to determine the legality of abortion.[4]
During his 2008 presidential campaign, Paul places in the top tier in Republican straw polls[5] and fundraising,[6] but commands significantly lower support in phone polls of Republican voters.[7][8] He has generated strong online support and is the top presidential candidate Internet search term as measured by Hitwise, Alexa, and Technorati; he has several times more YouTube subscribers than any other presidential candidate. Supporters "guard [his] image against what they see as a purposeful marginalization by the media",[9][10] and cite his victories in 2008 GOP debate sponsors' online and phone text polls to argue he deserves more mainstream recognition.[11][12]
Early life and education
Paul was born in Green Tree, Pennsylvania, to Margaret "Peggy" Paul (née Dumont)[13] and Howard Caspar Paul,[14] son of a German immigrant.[15] He was the third of five sons born during seven years in the Great Depression. His family owned a dairy farm in the small town, which lies just outside of Pittsburgh. Paul's father had an eighth-grade education and was co-owner of Green Tree Dairy, along with his brothers Lewis and Arthur. Paul shared one bedroom with his four brothers, Wayne, Jerrold, David, and William, and began working at his father's dairy at age five.[16] Later he delivered newspapers, worked in a drugstore, and became a milkman when he was old enough to drive.[17] One of the customers on his milk route was baseball legend Honus Wagner.[18]
He graduated from Dormont High School in Dormont, Pennsylvania, in 1953 with honors. He excelled in track and field,[19] winning the Pennsylvania state championship in the 220-yard dash and coming in second in the 440-yard dash as a junior. He also was on the wrestling team, played football and baseball, and was president of the student council.[17][18]
Paul paid for his first year at Gettysburg College with saved newspaper-delivery, lemonade-sale, and lawn-mowing money. Paul delivered mail and laundry on the side while in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; for one year, he managed the college coffee shop. He gave up track after a knee injury but joined the college's swimming team instead after taking this sport up as therapy. He had been offered a full scholarship to run for the track team but declined it, concerned that he would not regain his previous speed. Paul was inducted into the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity,[20] where he served as steward and house manager.[17] He received his Bachelor of Sciences degree in 1957, majoring in biology.[21]
Family
Paul married Carol Wells on February 1, 1957. Carol had asked Ron to their first date to a Sadie Hawkins dance, and they kept in touch while attending colleges in different states. The couple married in Paul's senior year at Gettysburg College. While they lived in Detroit for his residency, Carol ran a dance school in their basement.[17]
They have five children, who were baptized Episcopalian:[18] Ronnie, Lori, Rand, Robert, and Joy. There are eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.[19] Three children are also doctors:[22] Robert specializes in family practice, Joy in ob/gyn like her father, and Rand in eye surgery, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Rand is also founder of Kentucky Taxpayers United and sometimes speaks at events as surrogate for his father.[23][24] Paul supported his children during their undergraduate and medical school years, preventing their participation in the federal student loan program because the program was taxpayer-subsidized. He has not signed up for a Congressional pension for the same reason.[25][26] Paul usually goes home to Lake Jackson on weekends to avoid "Potomac fever".[27]
When her husband was campaigning in the 14th district, Carol Paul decided to help his campaign by compiling family recipes into a cookbook and sending it to constituents.[22] The cookbook, now in its fifth edition, is filled with pictures of the large Paul family. Carol and the family keep a "Recipe of the Week" on her husband's Congressional campaign website.[28][29]
Military service and medical career
Although he had once considered becoming a Lutheran minister like two of his brothers,[19] Paul decided to pursue a career in medicine instead and was accepted to Duke University School of Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1961. He interned and began residency training, both in internal medicine, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit (1961–1962), and completed his residency in ob/gyn at the University of Pittsburgh (1965–1968).[30] After his 1961 graduation from Duke University School of Medicine and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, he became an Air Force flight surgeon, serving outside the Vietnam War zone.
Paul's medical training was interrupted shortly after his graduation from Duke, when he was drafted into the United States Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis.[31] He remained in the military during the early years of the Vietnam War.[32] He served active duty as a flight surgeon, 1963–1965, attending to the ear, nose, and throat problems of pilots in South Korea, Iran, Ethiopia, and Turkey, but was never sent to Vietnam. Based out of Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, Paul achieved the rank of captain.[18][33] Paul received a higher wage from the Air Force than during his initial residency;[34] while in San Antonio, Paul also moonlighted three nights a week in a church hospital's emergency room in San Antonio for a wage of $3 per hour ($18 in 2007 dollars). He then served in the Air National Guard (1965–1968), while completing his residency in Pittsburgh.[35]
After leaving medical school and moving to Surfside Beach, Texas, Paul specialized in ob/gyn and eventually delivered more than 4,000 babies.[36] Taking over the medical practice of a retiring doctor in Lake Jackson, Texas, he was busy as the only ob/gyn doctor in Brazoria County, saying, "I delivered forty to fifty babies a month and did a lot of surgery."[37] Paul did not accept Medicare and Medicaid payments as a physician; instead, he worked for free or arranged discounted or custom-payment plans for needy patients; he says of these patients, "I just took care of them."[26][38][39]
