A lot of format discussion on here so I figured another post wouldn't hurt. Interesting format used at Cotton Bowl Speedway for the WoO race Thursday night.
20 cars in attendance, qualifying lines up two 10-car heats heads up. 8 laps, top two move to the dash. Remaining cars move to a single qualifier starting 16 cars, lined up by heat race finish. Qualifier takes two the back row of the dash and then sets the remainder of the A-Main lineup.
I think I like it. Gives another race with meaning, placing an additional two cars in the dash. Better than what I expected the format to be, where they would either run 3 heats, or two heats and take six or something to the A and 3 to the dash, then run a meaningless B just setting A-main positions.

Pretty disappointing car count, and we only get the WoO 2 times a year early in the spring, where we've had rain involved I believe every year the last 4 years. Used to go to ASCS shows and have 40+ car counts at Devils Bowl, now we might not even have a full field for the Feature.

I would watch a 20 car WoO field than a 40 car ASCS any day of the week, in fact I will this weekend.
Not sure why the surprise of low car counts, other than Sam15, Wayne Johnson and Ruetzel not many with a 410 engines in the area anyway.
I see Keith Kunz has two cars coming for his midget drivers this weekend.

There are no 410's down there. Be happy you have them.

My thoughts exactly. Sprint car racing sucks in Texas, unless you just love RaceSavers.

Let's compare the two shows you would typically get at Devils Bowl. WoO - fast lap times, single file freight train racing in the heats. ASCS - almost as fast lap times, single file freight racing (or lack thereof) in the heats. WoO - fastest car sits on the pole and runs off with the feature only getting challenged in lapped traffic. ASCS - fastest car sits on the pole and runs off with the feature only getting challenged in lapped traffic. Honesty, I don't see a lot of difference. The biggest difference being that ASCS is $10 cheaper.
