Going to Salina (OK) this weekend for the Oil Capital Series ($3k to win) and ASCS River Region ($2k to win). Both are 360's but what's the difference besides that?
Should be a good show with 50+ sprints in the pits.

Oil Capital are Carburated while the ASCS is fuel injected. The ASCS cars should make a little more horsepower

I doubt that there will be more than 35 sprints total between the OCRS and the ASCS. The OCRS portion of the show will only have 16 cars as it is an invitation only show. It is for the drivers who have supported the series and have ran at least six of the nine races they have ran this season. With the ASCS being a regional show and the National series in Tennessee there probably won't be many of those cars either if you've looked at their car counts this season. It still should be a good show though at the nicest track in the state.

You will be very sad when you see the car count, if your expecting 50+ sprints. 16 OCRS, that would mean 34 regional ASCS drivers.....I don't think so. Please let us know.

Rest assure this will be a good show overall. The Ameri-Flex Challenge II presented by Grand National Trailer was set to take up to 20 cars for the feature. There was a qualifying proceedure where teams had to earn the right to be in the show. 16 cars made that criteria. The format for the Ameri-Flex / OCRS portion of the race will be: 2 heats, 2 qualifiers and a 25-lap A feature.
Add the Red River Region of the ASCS series and there is a great show. A stand alone OCRS show at Salina is typically $15 for general admission. Tomorrow will be $20. So $5 more to have ASCS on the docket. That's a great deal for a fan. If you go pitside (where there are grandstands on the backstraight), the price is $35. That is a increase of.... ZERO dollars over the regular price.
"KAR" (Kansas Antique Racers) will also be there. This group has club members with all kinds of open wheel cars form the past. Several decades of racing machines will be on hand and they are going to buzz arounf the Salina Highbanks in those cars. Doubt I will be doing any work when they are on the track as it's cool to watch them.
If you are in the area and have never been to the Salina Highbanks, you owe it to yourself to go. Awesome track with 27 degree banking and there is the Finishline Restaurant serving the BEST track food I have ever had. Rib Eye steaks, KC Strip steaks, Salmon dinners, pasta dinners and so on. All while watching the races in a temerature controled enviroment. As mentioned, you owe it to yourself to check that out!
For those Ameri-Flex / OCRS race teams that made the show, those unfortuante souls are going to have to run for the highest starting purse int he history of the state of Oklahoma on a dirt track ......$1,000 to start!
One driver will earn $3,000 for winning with awesome contingencies being dished out to the entire field as well.
Thank you to all the sponsors for making this event the highest purse in the 16-year history of the series happen.

Great night of racing at Salina (OK) Highbanks Saturday night. Small car count with only 16 OCRS and 19 ASCS. However, the racing was outstanding due to the track being absolutley perfect with a high & low grove in the A mains. This produced sliders glore throughout the field (anyone have video?). The last 5 laps of the ASCS race was some of the best racing I've seen all year. Weird how sometimes a small car count produces the best racing. Maybe the 18 street stocks widened the track out?
Here's hoping the Oct. WoO Salina race has a similar track. Last years race was entertaining but the previous 3-4 WoO shows were average at best. The track was gone by lap 5 to 10 in the A main which resulted in single file restarts and laps being cut. Not sure if thats the tracks fault or the series...... but let's duplicate the track from last Saturday night and everyone's a winner.

The last WoO race I saw there was awesome. Top, bottom, middle. They were everywhere. It's a neat place when track prep is good. Just like Pevely.
