Yo' Kevin, I thought Brian Paulus won his first W of O race at Hartford, MI with my buddy Grove Girl's son helping scrape mud that night. You mentioned a TX victory was his first, am I wrong, again? Great read, about all I do in here anymore, lol. Take It Easy......

PS I think it was the B-Main that Frank perished in, a few feet from me, at that same Hartford, MI track....

Frank Gorichky, a driver from West Middlesex, PA died in a seven-car pile-up at Hagerstown Speedway, Hagerstown, MD on 28 September 1969. The accident occured on the 4th lap of a 20 lap race. Gorichky was taken to Washington County Hospital, but doctors could not revive him.

Although the race was the Mid-Atlantic Championship for Supermodifieds, Gorichky's #7, owned by the Kosier brothers, is to be regarded as a sprint car with a roll cage and wing on top. At the time of this accident there was still a mix of this type car and the older supermodifieds (also known as "Bugs" or 30 x 90's). So the term used since the early 60's in Central Pennsylvania was Supermodified. The next year, 1970, the term was changed to Super Sprints at all Central Pennsylvania tracks.

Gorichky began racing in the fifties and became the 1967 Blanket Hill Speedway champion driving for the Kosior Brothers. He won races at several tracks, including Blanket Hill, Butler, Mercer, Selinsgrove and Susquehanna. He won his last race at Lernerville, PA, just nine days before his death.

Gorichky was survived by his wife, Joyce Marie, and two children, Frank, Jr, age 9 and Kerry Lynn, age 6.

While we're nit-pickin, I think McCarl hasn't run a Wesmar since last year. It was most likely an Ott that gave him 3rd quick. Great read as always. Cya at the Bowl. We'll have to have a meeting at Big O's.

I believe MSPN was referring to Frank Filskov...

Correctomundo Sir William of Munroe! I would never nit-pick the greatest source of information this sport has to offer either, just a question and an observation from an old retired guy. Take It Easy....

Busted cold. Brian Paulus did indeed net his first WoO win at Hartford, Michigan. He has seven wins to his name. I should read my own Driver Search more closely.

And to Mister Pussycat, thank for bringing more Frank Gorichky details to light. I was going to elaborate (believing him to be Hagerstown's only sprint fatality) but already had a fat paragraph about Skyline. An interesting aside to that tragedy was Kenny Weld's broken arm that prompted him to choose Grove stock car champ Ron Dunstan, who promptly won. Dunstan is still winning Legend races.

Thanks For Paying Attention!

Eck

The Kosier Brothers #7 was later changed to a #8 and driven to many wins by Buddy Cochran. Buddy put that car on the pole of the 1972 Knoxville Nationals.

As long as we're nitpicking Eck...that hill that you and bro climbed with the bike was actually the landfill. And that square pond the parents sent you to go fishing...there's a reason you never caught anything...
