Reigning series champ Klint Simpson scores first C&H Veteran Ent. presents Hunt Magnetos Wingless Tour win of the year

By Gary Thomas

Petaluma, CA – April 3, 2017…After dominating the action last season at Petaluma Speedway local favorite Klint Simpson made a late-race move to bring home his first C&H Veteran Ent. presents Hunt Magnetos Wingless Tour victory of the year on Saturday.

Simpson, the defending C&H Veteran Ent. presents Hunt Magnetos Wingless Tour champion, swept all three tour events last season at the Petaluma adobe. He started off 2017 in that very same fashion, earning the Pit Stop USA main event triumph aboard Dave Johnson’s familiar No. 32 Sprint Car.

“It was a really great night tonight,” Simpson said in his team’s release. “For the first time this year we had a complete night. Every race before this we’ve gotten behind the eight ball and have had to dig ourselves out of a hole. Once I figured out how to dodge all of the holes I was really able to find something and build some momentum. I really enjoyed racing Austin (Liggett) and he ran me hard but he ran me clean the whole time.”

Tracy’s Austin Liggett had captured the previous round at Silver Dollar Speedway and was gunning to make it back-to-back on Saturday. The driver of the Brian Sperry Racing No. 51 took the lead after a handful of laps and held command until the later stages when Simpson was able to get by on the choppy early-season surface. After that the Santa Rosa driver pulled away to become the third different winner in three races.

Liggett hung on to finish second and maintain the C&H Veteran Ent. presents Hunt Magnetos Wingless Tour point lead.

Sacramento’s Troy Degaton had a solid night to come home third, while Loomis, CA’s Max Adams made a cameo appearance in the Finkenbinder Racing No. 3f and drove it to a fourth place finish. Santa Rose’s Terry Schank Jr. rounded out the top-five in the Pit Stop USA A-main. Completing the top-10 were Zack Kavert, Jimmy Christian, who charged from the rear after early flat tire, Shayna Sylvia, Casey McClain and Chris Kerr.

With no semi being held all 25-cars started the main event on Saturday. The Air One HVAC Systems Award was also spread to the final few finishers, as nobody got upside down during the night.
