We are going to go to Knoxville for the first time this year, what is the better show the WOO show or just a normal weekly show?

Thanks in advance

For me the WoO show is better. I usually am there for 3 or 4 weekly shows and always the Nationals. I was glad to see the WoO back for a 2 day show this year! For me it would be the Outlaw race!

If you do not NEED to see Schatz, Pittman, Johnson, etc....I think the weekly show is better bang for your buck.

Pretty much the same show otherwise, some might argue that weekly format is more fan friendly, some like the WoO format.

Go with a regular weekly show. At $15 it's the best bargain in racing. They have a great format with inverts in the heats and features and you'll see some big names like Brian Brown, Danny Lasoski, Terry McCarl, etc. Plus with the competitive 305 and 360 classes you'll see anywhere from 60-80 sprint cars on a regular Saturday.

Aside from the Nationals my Favorites are the 2 weeklys before the Nationals

all the regulars plus teams are coming in town to tune up for the nationals.

The weekly show is usually good.  But we're talking about the WOO.  So it's a no brainer for me.  If I were only going once I'd go watch the big boys.  Not only do you get to see the best but you get to watch the locals try their absolute best to beat them.  It's a little bit like Posse vs Outlaws.  It's one of the few places where locals have a legitimate chance to win.  But either way you simply can't go wrong.  Knoxville is the capital for a reason.

Depends on when you're going to be around Knoxville.

I've attended almost every sprint car race for the past.... idk how many years. The weekly racing is phenomenal and the track prep is top notch. The weekly show is a well oiled machine, and will likely be over before 10pm.

If this is your first trip to Knoxville, then I'd probably want to see the WOO there too. Again, the weekly competition is stiff, and second to none, yes second to none, plus you never know who will roll in that doesnt' race there weekly.

Format wise, I prefer the weekly format, vs the WOO, but that's not a deal breaker for me.

Again, to me this all depends on when you want to go. I'd recommend June or July. There are some nights earlier in the season I'm dressed like I'm going ice fishing.

How much of a trip is it for you?  I'll make the 560 mile trip for the opener if it conduscive to a motorcycle ride.  Possibly back for the WoO and the nationals and possibly another weekly show. You can't go wrong with any show there.

USAC sprint cars have always been great at Knoxville. You would see passing.

I would go when it works for you, the weekly show to is isnt that much different than WOO. You would enjoy it, I've never met anyone that hasn't. Also check out the Sprint Car Hall of Fame on turn 2.

Many times others tracks are racing on Friday  or Sunday, So you can catch more racing.

The Iowa State Fair is an interesting option with going to Knoxville.

The Iowa State Fair WAS an interesting option... until the fair board got rid of the track.

I can't argue with anything anybody posted above.  The WoO will be more interesting this year with the addition of little Haud and Marks... Joey's new team... should be fun.

With that said, June is gonna be a great month to live in the midwest if you like all DIFF kinds of open wheel racing.

June 1 - POWRI midgets at Fairbury, IL (FALS) - IL midget week -- or WoO at Jackson, MN

June 2 - USAC sprints at I-80 Speedway... Greenwood, NE -- or POWRI midgets at Jacksonville, IL (IL midget week) -- or WoO at Jackson, MN

June 3 - USAC sprints at Knoxville (with winged 305s & 360s) -- or POWRI midgets at Macon, IL (IL midget week) -- or WoO at Jackson, MN (final night of Jackson Nationals)

June 4 - POWRI midgets at Lincoln, IL (IL midget week)

June 6 - USAC midgets at Montpelier, IN (IN midget week)

June 7 - USAC midgets at Gas em Up City (IN midget week)

June 8 - USAC midgets at Putnanville, IN (IN midget week)

June 9 - USAC midgets at Bloomington, IN (IN midget week) -- or WoO at Knoxville -- or All Stars at Lincoln, IL

June 10 - USAC midgets at L'burg, IN (IN midget week) -- or WoO at Knoxville -- or All Stars at Macon, IL

June 11 - USAC midgets at Kokomo, IN (IN midget week) -- or All Stars at 34 Raceway... West Burlington, IA

June 13 - WoO at Eagle Raceway... Eagle, NE

June 16 - WoO at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND

June 17 - WoO in North Dakota -- or Knoxville weekly show

June 23 - WoO at West Liberty Speedway... West Liberty, IA - first time ever I think (?)

June 24 - WoO at Beaver Dam, WI -- or Knoxville weekly show

June 27 - WoO at Route 66 in Joliet, IL (first time in a long time)

June 29 - WoO at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN

If Badlands doesn't run and with Jackson not running  360's regularly, Knoxville should have TONS of cars for their weekly shows, probably a record breaking season. I would opt for a weekly show, as has been stated, incredible value.

TONS of weekly cars mean TONS of weekly cars (most likely) showing up for WOO weekend.

You are not incorrect.....there should be tons of cars.  And your choice of weekly show is your choice.

I would do WOO if given the choice.   If I have a choice between tons of regulars and tons of regulars + the WOO cars, why wouldn't I want to see the latter?

And for the ticket price?  If he's driving 5 hours, getting a place to stay, and eating 3 meals out, might as well spend the extra 25 or 30 bucks?

No disrespect, I just disagree

For my money, the weekly show right before the 360 Nationals is always a good show as lots of visitors start showing up for the $15 ticket price.  This year, the ASCS National tour also shows up that same night, so it should be about 90 cars in attendance.

If I remember correctly, Vande77 posted one time that attendance actually drops at the Knoxville WoO show.  The reason was that the weekly show is over quickly (someone else posted by 10 pm) and the racing was very good.   Supposedly when the WoO shows up the show is two hours longer and the racing isn't as good.   Many of the Knoxville regulars apparently don't go to the WoO show.   I hope I remembered that correctly and maybe Vande will correct me if I'm mistaken.

Either way though, the OP will have a great time if he's never been to Knoxville before.   And whether it's a weekly show or the WoO show he will see something better than I'll see in the state of Texas all year.

All of that may be true and those are good reasons to not like the WOO over the regular weekly show.

I however, don't care about the time I leave the track or length of the show.  Maybe as I get older it will start to bother me but as for right now, leaving a track at 11:00 or 11:30 doesn't even register with me.

I'm not a spring chicken any more myself.    I'm actually very happy with any show that's over by midnight.    Even later may be OK depending on what is running.   If it's all sprint cars then that's good, but if it's stocks or mods of some sort then it ain't good.   If it's really cold, like it will probably be at the Devils Bowl Spring Nationals, then I have much less patience.   I am getting to be a wuss in my old age, especially during cold weather.

With regard to Devils Bowl, I quit going to the WoO shows there long before Lanny Edwards quit bringing them in.   Ticket prices increased, car counts decreased, time trials suck, freight train heat races, and the leader ran off and left everyone with no racing to be seen.   I didn't care if it was Swindell and Kinser, it just wasn't a good show.    ASCS had car counts and much better car counts, and much cheaper ticket prices.
