Bud Kaeding finishes 5th at Kansas/Heads for Chico’s Fall Nationals

By Gary Thomas

Kansas City, Kansas - October 1, 2007... Campbell, CA’s Bud Kaeding brought home a top five finish on Saturday afternoon at the 1.5 mile Kansas Speedway to give himself a 50 plus point advantage with just one more USAC Silver Crown race left before the championship is decided.

The 27 year-old made a strong charge after having to start from deep in the field following engine problems that made him unable to attempt a qualifying run on Friday. Starting dead last in the running order, Bud was able to carve his way forward throughout the race and brought home a fifth place finish aboard the Kaeding Performance, Puma, MPD Racing Products, Bell Helmets, MDR Machine, High Five Pizza No. 29.

With the top five finish, Bud now has a 54 point lead in the Silver Crown points heading into the final race of the season, which comes on November 8 at the Phoenix International Raceway. With the time off from the USAC Silver Crown schedule, Bud will now be able to race near home next week as he’ll take to the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for the annual Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals. Bud hasn’t competed at the Fall Nationals in quite a few years, but he has had success in the event as has the Kaeding family. Bud himself is two-time winner of the Fall Nationals and those wins came in 1996 and 1997. Bud’s father Brent won the Fall Nationals in 2002 & 2005 and his brother Tim also captured the event in 2001.

For the weekend Bud will sit behind the wheel of the Werbach Motorsports No. 20. He attempted to drive the Los Gatos Construction sponsored machine at Calistoga in August, but drive line issues forced him to scratch for the night after hot laps. Bud last competed at the Silver Dollar Speedway in May during the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial where he finished in the eighth position. He’ll look for good things this weekend at the 1/4 mile clay oval located in beautiful Chico, Calif.
