Could not agree more.  I'm only 33, but I've been coming down this race weekend for basically my whole life.  It seems as though the weather is never good.  I know the last couple of years are prime examples, but there are plenty that stand out.  I don't know if moving the race to July is the answer, since that month is already so crowded with crown jewel events.  But, I would really like to see them move the race up 2-3 weeks to the first half of September.  Traditions are one thing, and they are important, but they don't mean anything if the races don't happen.

Avg Rainfall by month in PA (Harrisburg) in inches

Jan     3.18

Feb    2.88

Mar    3.58

Apr    3.31

May    4.60

Jun    3.43

July    3.99

Aug    3.24

Sept    3.65

Oct    3.06

Nov    3.53

Dec    3.22

Sucks that we lost all three days again but the past two years are certainly an anomoly as opposed to the norm.  When the normal beginning of October weather is around (like this whole upcoming week) you can't beat it as far as camping and being outside.  Leave it scheduled where it is and hopefully next year we are raving about what a good time we all had (we still had a good time for three days camping, it just didn't involve racing).

Good point.  Weather stats don't lie.

But - since 2006, the National Open has been impacted by rain on 7 occasions.  Nights canceled, races cut short, races moved to different weekends.  These last 10-11 years have been a real challenge for the National Open.  Moving it up a couple of weekends may not make much of a difference.  But, it might be something to consider.

Make them both $25,000 to win. That will fill Port's grand stands. Smile

I don't think you need to worry about that. Last years WOO race at Port was banged out, SRO. I got there an hour before hotlaps thinking it was going to be like the year before(good crowd but not packed) and was lucky to find a couple seats in row 2. The view from down there sucked, couldn't see shit! Spend the $5 extra for reserved if you are going.

Maybe williams grove will realize that a 3day national open is not the way to go 0 for 6 and a sunday show last year that cost them lots of money!  Go Hodnett!

Not sure the reason they added the extra night, was fine as 2-day and not enough cars for a 3-day show IMO. Guess they feel like the WOO shows are money makers so they'd try to squeeze another 1 in. The big prize on Saturday night is the 1 that matters. Sucks that all 3 were rained out though. Good thing Port has brought the WOO back in the area in Oct. so the Grove can hopefully make the race up with WOO sanction. Makes it more worthwhile for the WOO teams and travelling fans to have 2 nights of racing in central PA also. I've sen a couple m/u natty's without the WOO and it just wasn't quite the same.

I'd have to disagree. Bad weather is a possibilitty no matter which weekend you have it. There's big races every Sept. weekend in PA. Putting it in July between the Kings Royal and Knoxville nationals would make the race seem like just another outlaw show. Personally I love the end of season traditional big races in PA and it all builds up to the natty. Racing wise, I've seen much better WOO shows during the Natty vs. mid-summer WOO events. The cooler air and moister track seem to make for better racing(and faster lap-times) than the dry-slicks we see during the dog-days. Last 2 years were bad luck with weather so we should be good for awhile now - law of averages.

I like that last sentence Holden. There's no way this happens next year.
