Despite flat tire, Bud Kaeding continues to lead Silver Crown standings

By Gary Thomas

Rossburg, Ohio - September 25, 2007...Even with suffering a flat tire during the 4-Crown Nationals at the Eldora Speedway, Campbell’s Bud Kaeding was able to add points to his current lead in the K & N Filters USAC Silver Crown Series standings. Bud was running around the top five when the tire issue surfaced and spent the rest of the race trying to get as many positions back as possible.

Bud did double duty at 4-Crown Nationals as he sat aboard the Silver Crown car and ended up also wheeling a sprint car for the evening of action at the wicked fast ½ mile dirt oval. In the sprint car he qualified 13th fastest out of 48 cars, then had issues during the heat race and was forced to run the B-main. Lining up eighth in the B-main Bud had to get into the top six to make it into the 30 lap feature.

By lap three the 27 year-old driver had carved his way forward to put the Kaeding Performance, High Five Pizza No. 29 into a transfer spot. The rest of the 12 lap contest saw Bud trade the sixth position multiple times in an intense wheel to wheel duel with a few different drivers. As the white flag came out he was right there knocking on the door, but at the checkered flag he sat in the seventh spot, one position shy of transferring out.

In the Silver Crown portion of the event Bud qualified third quickest in the field of 27 cars aboard the MDR Machine, Bell Helmets No. 29. The Silver Crown Series doesn’t run heat races so he lined up third in the 50 lap 4-Crown Nationals USAC Silver Crown Series main event. Through the first part of the race he hung around the top five until suffering a flat tire on lap 17. After getting the issue fixed he got back out to rejoin the field where he would go on and bring the Puma, Bell Helmets machine home in 11th place.

Despite the tough break during the 4-Crown Nationals, Bud stretched his lead in the Silver Crown standings to 60 digits with just two more races remaining on the ‘07 schedule. This weekend will see the series head to the Kansas Speedway for the "Kansasspeedway.com 100." The event is in conjunction with the NASCAR Nextel Cup & Busch Series weekend at the 1.5 mile paved oval. Bud finished fourth in this race last year and was able to wrap up his first career USAC Silver Crown Series championship in doing so. He’ll look to do the same this year and put the Kaeding Performance, MPD, High Five Pizza, Bell Helmets, MDR Machine, Puma No. 29 into victory lane.
