Wondering what the general concensus is regarding the "prestige" of the WoO Silver Cup at Lernerville.  Being my home track it's sometimes difficult to gauge general perception of an event being its always held in high regards locally.

Nationally, how do others view the Silver Cup - on par with some other "Top Tier" events (NOT including HUGE events like Nationals, King's Royal, Natty Open, etc.) such as maybe the Ironman 55?

I believe it is viewed as a great race , at a great track where the new owner is putting in renovations that WoO did not do , but then that follows suit at every track they've owned . I think tomorrow night's race will be a good one . Why ,because original format is  positive , only thing I've heard from drivers is it doesn't pay good back through the field . I wish I could go but I think this race will be a good one tomorrow night, better then the upcoming Grove races .Enjoy , as I believe this race will grow again in stature .

.............. I think when Don started this race, the purse was exactly 1/2 of the King's Royale with Don adding 1000 to win each year? ............... which is why the payout thru back field sucks ........ Earl's purses were always top heavy

Very true story Hardman, Don Martin was up there with Earl on the most loved Promoter scale, he was a great man in both the fans and Drivers eyes, can't say that so much anymore.....

It's 1500 to start the A Main this year.

This race will never be in the upper echelon because it's held on a Tuesday after the Kings Royal. To me, they should have it the weekend after the Royal and move the Summer Nationals a week later.

The best thing to ever happen to this race is for it to be back to a standard format show with a big purse.  The twin $10k features were a gimmick that fans seemed to love, but I think the racers probably hated.  I wouldn't be shocked to see close to 50 cars tomorrow night, with a nice pull from Ohio.

dsc1600 - I disagree slightly with your point about the weekend.  Having it on a Tuesday increases the chance (only slightly) that guys who travel in from the west (like Brian Brown) for the Royal will stick around for the Silver Cup.  But, having it on Tuesday does greatly increase the chances of strong Central PA attendance.  I'm sure Hodnett, Dietrich, Marks, Wolfe, Wagner, Zearfoss, etc. will be in attendance tomorrow.  That chance is significantly decreased if this race is on a Friday or Saturday night.

Agree that going back to a high paying standard format show is a good move.  Drivers and owners did not like the Twin features format, but fans did so I see both sides of it.  Personally glad to see it back to a standard show however.  Last year's count of 44 cars was a pleasant surpise after some dips the few years before.  I'd be slightly surprised to see it hit 50 but hope we can see 40+ again this year.

Being that it's a race with some tradition helps it being midweek, but generally midweek shows aren't great.  Again, this one has some provenance so it works.  It does "help" for some MW guys who to King's Royal to think about sticking around, though most oftentimes they do not.  Brownie is not, but the Dude is (in his own ride).  Clauson went back to IN for a race last night but is scheduled to come back for this race (I think the first time he's ever been to Lernerville).  DD is not coming, but Marks, Hodnett, Wolfe are.  Gotta remember most Posse guys and their crews have jobs too so they gotta factor in travel time, etc.

.... thinking ................... the WRG scheduled WOO shows @ L-ville on the weekends (even in late October) & they were piss poor ...

..... if Silver Cup were scheduled on your weekend  .... AllStars are scheduled against & the same Posse would show up that would on Tuesday & no way Kings Royale cars stay a week to run ................... better, no way

Clearly the All Stars would not run against a $25k race at Lernerville. Also, my guess is that Hodnett, Marks, and a few others would skip Port at least and run at Lernerville.

Glad to hear start money is 1500 , it may come at a bad time after Kings Royal but it does have more potential . The good thing  is now that this track has new life, new marketing , a  owner who is making improvements , and a very racy track that can provide a better race then Williams Grove which only has prestige . With added money paid through the field , better marketing , it has a lot of potential for a WoO race . Bring in USAC TO LERNERVILLE AND MARKET THAT RACE , as non-wing racing is by far more exciting then  WoO racing .

Being from central PA and not real familiar with the history and tradition of Lernerviklle, I never viewed the Silver Cup as a highly prestigious race. However it's certainly a great show at a great track, and obviously a much higher purse than a normal WOO show. IMO Lernerville is the best dirt track in PA. It's perfect in size and shape, fast but racey. I wish we could swap Williams Grove for Lernerville so we could see the best 410's in central PA on a racey, wide, high-banked track, instead of strung out single file on an oversized, low-banked, paper clip.

Just when you thought he was gone, Altman is back with his Woo and Williamsgrove suck post, disguised as a positive post about Lernerville and the Silver cup. Great to hear from you Robert!

I think it paid 1200 to start which is still real good start money.  I also agree that USAC (both wingless and midgets) would be a great race at Lernerville with its high banks.  They do have a BOSS wingless race.

Where we disagree is that the "track has new life, new marketing and an owner who is making improvements."  The track does not have "new life," because it was not in dire need of a such.  Could it and every track "improve"?  Heck yeah, but it didn't need a jolt of "new life."  New marketing?  Nah, they could definitely improve there 10 fold, but nothing has changed a TON outside of some new sponsors.  "An owner who is making improvements."  Again, not so much...yet.  The current local owners had the benefit of actually purchasing the track last season and watching the season unfold, learning the ropes, the logistics, the administrative side while it was still being run by someone else.  That a pretty nice advantage that many don't get.  The improvements - pizza in the concession stands, a remodeled scorer's area, new HVAC in the press box and a section of new bleachers that was funded by a sponsor.  They still have lots of time to improve and I think they will (side note: it's not that Lernerville is in need of a ton of improvements either), but there's also that they may just be the type of people that bought the track because they could and because it looks good in their "portfolio."  Time will tell which it is.
