Unexpectedly going to be in the STL this weekend. Looking to visit a new track. Thoughts on I-55? Seems like a UMP show, Lates and Mods. Insight on the camping particulary interesting. No need for hook ups etc, just going to sleep in my work truck. Thoughts?

I-55 Raceway is one of the raciest tracks in the country. They have plenty of room for camping. You might go to their website and get contact information and give them a call.
Also, on Friday night, Tri-City Speedway (Granite City) is having a $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Show.

Pevely's weekly show with late models and mods is always a good one. 40 minutes south of there, Farmington Mo runs winged sprints, St. Francois County Raceway

Powri is running midgets and micro sprints Friday night at Belle Clair in Belleville. It's a tiny track and the midgets always seem to put on a good show there.

The show at Tri City will probably be OK (track seems to always take rubber), but you should go to the Powri race instead on Friday. Belle Clair is one of the hidden gems in dirt track racing and I promise it will provide much better racing than Granite will. Pevely's weekly show is great. Solid field of cars usually. If sprint cars are what you'd prefer, SFCR is about a 40 minute drive from Pevely.
I'm from Festus (10 minutes from I55) and have seen plenty of races at each track. You won't be disapointed either way, but IMO Belle Clair + Pevely would provide the best bang for your buck.

I agree with the opinions above... late models @ Tri-City vs. midgets @ Belle-Claire isn't much of a decision... always go with midgets! I've been to Belle-Claire a few times to watch midgets/micros, great little track... perfect for midgets.
I've been to both Pevely and Farmington... both are good/different/unique in different ways... flip a coin!
