USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series

USAC WEST COAST SPRINTS CLASH AT SANTA MARIA THIS SATURDAY

JUNE 14, 2016... After a break in the schedule, the USAC West Coast Sprint Cars will make their first of two appearances at Santa Maria Raceway this Saturday, June 18th. Promoted by Mike Kappmeyer, the seventh point race will also feature the Santa Maria 360 Sprints, Dunn Edwards IMCA Modifieds, Rugged Radios Hobby Stocks, Sport Mods, and Mini Stocks. Located in Nipomo, California, the pit gates at "The West's Best Short Track" will open at 10:00am, the front gates open at 4:00pm, and racing will begin at 6:00pm. NOTICE TO RACERS: Saturday’s race at Santa Maria will be run under the USAC West Coast Rule Book and a $35 entry fee will be collected. The Hoosier 105/16 Medium is the ONLY legal right rear tire and all four corners must be Hoosier. Cockpit adjustable shocks are NOT allowed and engine restrictor rules are 1-7/8” with open heads and 2-3/16” with ASCS cylinder heads. The weight rule is 1,475 lbs. with driver and the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Rule Book can be found online at www.westcoastsprintcars.com and www.usacracing.com.

Since May 2, 2009, Santa Maria Raceway has held twenty-eight USAC West Coast Sprint Car events. Richard Vander Weerd leads all drivers with five victories and Ryan Bernal set the 1-lap qualifying record of 13.529 on September 17, 2011. On September 11, 2004, “Showtime” Danny Sheridan posted the all-time 360 1-lap record of 13.354.

Heading to Santa Maria, D.J. Johnson (Stockton, California) has an eight point lead over the competition. Racing the family owned #33 Proplant Farm Services / J. Milano Company Eagle, Johnson scored fifth at Tulare’s “Chris & Brian Faria Memorial” on May 14th. To date, the former USAC Western Classic Rookie of the Year has two feature wins, one heat race victory, one BR Motorsports / King Racing Products Hard Charger Award, six top-10 finishes, and 51 feature laps led to his credit. Currently tied for sixteenth in series wins, D.J. will be looking for his third career main event win.

Brody Roa (Garden Grove, California) ranks second in the chase for the championship. Driving the BR Performance owned #91R HD Industries / Lee & Norma Leonard Maxim, Roa claimed third at Tulare’s “Faria Memorial.” At press time, the defending 360 Western World Champion has two Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards, one heat race victory, five top-10 finishes, and 3 feature laps led on the season. Brody is tied for twenty-fourth on the series win list and will have his sights on his first Santa Maria triumph.

After running second at Tulare, Trey Marcham (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) has climbed to third in the point standings. Piloting Steve Watt’s #81 Maxwell Industries / Steve Watt Enterprises Maxim, Marcham has posted one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award and five top-10 finishes on the year. Last season’s Rookie of the Year will be looking to earn his first series triumph this Saturday night.

Jace Vander Weerd (Visalia, California) sits fourth in the USAC West Coast point chase. Driving the family owned #88 Vander Weerd Construction / Stone Gate Development Maxim, Jace scored fourteenth at the “Faria Memorial.” At press time, the 2010 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year has one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, one heat race victory, one Keizer Wheels / Competition Suspension Inc. Semi-Main win, four top-10 finishes, and 28 feature laps led to his credit. Vander Weerd has six career USAC West Coast wins and will have his sights on another $1,500 payday at Santa Maria.

Richard Vander Weerd (Visalia, California) is currently fifth in the championship standings. Racing the family owned #10 Vander Weerd Construction / Stone Gate Development Maxim, Richard took sixth at Tulare’s checkered flags. Heading to Santa Maria, the 2011 Champion has one feature win, one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, one BR Motorsports / King Racing Products Hard Charger Award, four top-10 finishes, and three feature laps led in the campaign. Vander Weerd is second in career series wins and will be looking to claim his nineteenth main event on Saturday.

Currently ninth in points, Ryan Timmons (Pleasant Hill, California) leads the chase for Rookie of the Year honors. Colton Slack (Brentwood, California), “Chainsaw” Johnny White (Bakersfield, California), and Cory Elliott (Bakersfield, California) are also in contention.

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are Austin Liggett, Max Adams, Tristan Guardino, Jeff Sibley, “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr., Troy Rutherford, Kevin Barnes, Kyle Smith, Cody Majors, “The Rickster” Ricky Kirkbride, Shannon McQueen, “Shifter” Landon Hurst, and more.

“Turd Ferguson” Trent Carter (Terra Bella, California) sits atop the Santa Maria Sprint Car point standings. Bill Jones, Charlie Butcher, James Herrera, Jordan Linson, Luke Boles, “Junkyard” Jimmy Thompson, Jeremy Ellertson, Matt Day, and Ryan Timmons round out the top-10 drivers.
