STEVIE SUSSEX STRIKES GOLD AT LAS CRUCES

JUNE 8, 2016... After winning the previous night at El Paso, Stevie Sussex (Tempe, Arizona) led all 30-laps to claim the USAC SouthWest / NMMRA “Border Tour” race at Las Cruces, New Mexico. For Sussex, the Southern New Mexico Speedway triumph was his fifth win of the season. “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr., top-qualifier R.J. Johnson, “The Magic Man” Mike Martin, and Andy Reinbold followed Sussex to the checkered flags.

Racing Mike Burkhart’s #21AZ Stratis Construction / Westin Diversified RSS, Stevie Sussex won the night’s first heat race, ranked sixth in passing points, and started on the pole position. The two-time Hank Arnold Memorial Winner left Las Cruces ranked second in the point chase with five feature wins, five heat race victories, two top-qualifier awards, one hard charger award, nine top-10 finishes, and 112 feature laps led.

“Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. (Buckeye, Arizona) raced from seventh to score second in the Las Cruces main event. Driving the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply RSS, Davis was seventh in passing points after winning the night’s second 8-lap heat race. Heading to Queen Creek on June 11th, the five-time Arizona champion is third in the standings with eight heat race victories, two top-qualifier awards, one hard charger award, thirteen top-10 finishes, and 34 feature laps led on the year.

R.J. Johnson (Tempe, Arizona) drove from sixth to claim third at Southern New Mexico Speedway. Piloting Bill Michael’s #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson was the night’s top qualifier after running second to Mike Martin in his heat race. The three-time champion and current point leader left Las Cruces with three feature wins, five heat race victories, five top-qualifier awards, fourteen top-10 finishes, and 91 feature laps led on the season.

“The Magic Man” Mike Martin (Yuma, Arizona) ran fourth at the Las Cruces checkered flags. Racing his #16 Sherwin-Williams / Boulevard Truck Maxim, Martin won the night’s third heat race and placed third in passing points. Heading to Arizona Speedway, the former Hall of Fame Classic winner has four heat race victories, two hard charger awards, twelve top-10 finishes, and 27 feature laps led in the campaign.

Andy Reinbold (Gilbert, Arizona) had a solid night with a fifth place run at Las Cruces. Driving Todd Underwood’s #19 AME Electrical / Ross Equipment Rentals Spike, Reinbold placed fifth in passing points after scoring third in his heat race. The veteran driver is currently ninth in the point chase with six top-10 finishes to his credit.

Landon Cling (Tempe, Arizona) earned the night’s “Hard Charger / Best Passing Job” honors with a fourteenth place run from twenty-first. Racing his #54 machine, Cling finished eighth in his heat race and sat fourteenth in passing points. Landon left New Mexico ranked fourteenth in championship points with one top-10 finish.

On Saturday, June 11th, the USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Series will travel to Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Arizona.
