JUNE 8, 2016... Racing past Wes Wofford on the ninth lap, Stevie Sussex (Tempe, Arizona) led the rest of the way to claim last Friday’s victory at El Paso’s Western Tech Speedway Park. For Sussex, the USAC SouthWest Sprint Car “Border Tour” race with the New Mexico Motor Racing Association (NMMRA) was his fourth win of the campaign. Hard charger Shon Deskins, R.J. Driving Mike Burkhart’s #21AZ Stratis Construction / Westin Diversified RSS, Stevie Sussex earned his eighth career USAC SouthWest feature win. Before starting fifth in the main event, the two-time Hank Arnold Memorial winner was second in passing points after running second to Charles Davis Jr. in his heat race.

Shon Deskins (Phoenix, Arizona) earned the night’s “Hard Charger / Best Passing Job” honors with a second place run from fourteenth. Piloting his #20 Spike Chassis / Performance Plus Engines machine, Deskins ranked fourteenth in passing points after finishing fourth in his heat race.

R.J. Johnson (Tempe, Arizona) scored third in the El Paso feature after starting eighth. Racing Bill Michael’s #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson ran second in his heat race to Dennis Gile and placed eighth in passing points.

“Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. (Buckeye, Arizona) claimed fourth at Western Tech Speedway Park. Piloting the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply RSS, Davis sat third in passing points after winning the night’s second 8-lap heat race.

Matt Rossi (Glendale, Arizona) charged from seventeenth to score fifth at El Paso. Driving the family owned #02 Apache Scapes / IWR Spike, Rossi took fifth in his heat race, won the night’s semi-main, and ranked seventeenth in passing points.

In his first USAC SouthWest start, Dylan Harris (El Paso, Texas) was the night’s top qualifier out of twenty-nine racers. Racing the #4 Kendrick Electric / AA Steel & Supply entry, Harris won the program’s first heat race and claimed twenty-third in the feature.

Dennis Gile (Phoenix, Arizona) raced to victory in the night’s third heat race. Piloting the family owned #13 Quarterback Academy / Bobby Q Ellis, Gile was fourth in passing points and ran seventh in the El Paso main event.

Josh Pelkey (Peoria, Arizona) won the night’s fourth 8-lap heat race. Driving the Robbie & Gaye Allen owned #12 ABC Body Shop / Napa Auto Parts entry, Pelkey ranked fifth in passing points and scored nineteenth in the feature after a flip ended his night.
