I went to Double X Speedway in California, MO one Sunday to run my midget. Jesse had been in Indiana or even farther east running either the 13 car or his borrowed pavement car with Usac the 2 nights before, and wherever he ran Saturday didn't finish until well into the AM hours. Nobody actually expected to see him show up in central MO for $650 to win after the weekend he had just had. Sure as hell at 5 oclock he came flying into the pits, unloaded his own #77 car, started scrambling with his crew to pull maintenece and fix an issue with the brakes, all the while trying to make his new wife (or girlfriend, can't remember if this was before or after they got married) understand why he was at the racetrack instead of home and explain how much work he had to do to get the car ready. Needless to say he ended up putting a whoopin on the field, even after accepting the challenge to start shotgun in the main.
Watching him blow through traffic on a track as small, narrow, and tight cornered as XX was nothing short of amazing.
As impressive as this story was, I am even more impressed with the weekend that Jesse came from the back to the top 3-5 against USAC at Eldora with a 360 in the car after blowing up the 410 in the heatrace, finishing well into the AM hours in Ohio, then hopping on a redeye to Arizona, jumping into Bob Reams car, and winning the last sprintcar race at Manzy before it closed for good on Sunday afternoon.
What a racer. What a good dude. When the hell is he going to get looked at for consideration in the NSCHOF?
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.
