I just saw the announcement about the All Star Sprints having some TV coverage...tape delay airing of 6 races this season.

This is very cool, I hope my cable provider will carry these broadcasts! This series could really grow in importance if they stay with the limited travel and increase the interest, sponsorship and the payouts.

It's May and I love the 500....I just wish the INDYCAR series was as popular as it used to be. This got me to thinking that the All Stars may end up having more televison exposure than INDYCAR! I mean, I didn't even notice the Indy Grand Prix, last weekend....was it televised? I didn't see any sports news cover this race....or any of the INDYCAR races this year. I am glad Indy 500 practice is streamed live on the Indy 500 website.....it used to be on ESPN. If it is on a network now, it's probably a pay extra for it station on cable.

I also miss the older style Indy cars...the design that didn't have the rear wheels completely covered by bodywork...like it is now.... Those are totally unnecessary in my opinion and just make it possible for more parts to get knocked off of the cars during competition....

My musings for today!

IndyCar Grand Prix of Indy was on ABC.

All of their events are on TV (either ABC or NBCSports Network).

Great thing for the All Stars though to get in with SInclair Broadcasting.  Never heardd of their network, but know they own quite a few TV stations across the US (including the Fox affiliate in DesMoines, IA).

Vande77, maybe it's because I don't see the events advertised or promoted very much by these networks?  I didn't know the last race was on ABC....aI missed it! I don't have the NBC Sports Network. It is not on the standard tiers that my cable company offers. Thye offer it as an add on for extra money...

INDYCAR seems off the radar......but at least the 500 is always on ABC...so, I will look at their website and see what the balance of the TV schedule looks like.

Thank you!

Sinclair (who the All Stars have their TV deal with) basically owns a bunch of affiliate channels all over the nation. When they broadcast sports on those channels they do it under their American Sports Network banner. They broadcast sports from a lot of smaller colleges including a game last year featuring my college football team, Northwest Missouri State. They also own Ring of Honor Wrestling, which is one of their bigger brands that they promote on their channels.

Now where this new TV deal could become interesting is that Sinclair recently bought The Tennis Channel and the rumor is that they're going to rebrand it under the American Sports Network name. So if that happens then the All Stars would be on a channel that is part of upper-tier sports packages that can be viewed on Direct, Dish, and quite a few cable providers.

However, the All-Stars TV deal isn't even comparable with INDYCAR. Every race of the IndyCar Series is broadcast live on either NBC Sports Network, CNBC, or ABC. INDYCAR's support series also get a bit of television coverage from NBC Sports Network although that is usually tape delayed.

Here's a list of stations owned by Sinclair for anyone that's interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stations_owned_or_operated_by_Sinclair_Broadcast_Group
