Can someone please remind me what it was that Sammy Swindell was supposed to bring or add to this team? He was lapped traffic both nights at Eldora and has been a non factor at pretty much every event he has graced the field with his presence at thus far. Gravel on the other hand is having a pretty respectable season at this point.

No surprise here. Same thing kind of happened to Stevie Smith when they had a 2 car team before. Seemed like one car got more attentention than the other. Maybe samething here. Stevie got screwed and so did Rahmer. Look what happened to both when they left CJB. Rahmer had a Steller year in the 20S and Stevie kicked ass everytime on track in you guressed it Rahmers Car.

Sammy is testing for Gravel. His qualifying times are not that good. Lets face here if ur not KKR or Schatz ur r pretty much screwed. Im glad to see Joey running well, but they dont have the motors that the NASCAR sponsored cars have. I feel this is going to destroy sprint car racing, especially the new format which totaly sucks. Might as well just have the dash cars for the feature, gone are the days starting outside the top 10 and winning. I think the Outlaws did this so when they go to PA they wont get spanked. By the Way Craftsman has never sent me my free sticker that they promised 3 months ago.  I would rather go see a NSL or All-Star show, at least the smaller teams have a chance. The Outlaws are catering to there teams, thats the bottom line. One other thing about Sammy, dont forget he is 60yrs old, I would like to see anyone at his age still make a Outlaw show. My 2cents worth.

A NSL 360 race if I remember right.   The 410 program is where he's lacking.   No different than a couple of years ago when he was with Quiring on the tour.

Don't tell Madsen about the "Nascar owners motors" because he just put a whooping on the boys at Eldora.

kind of curious as to what your racing record is? I'm sure you're lap traffic at the local go cart track.

maybe a match race between you and Sammy? Better bring some extra shorts. I'm sure you'll mess yours!

The skills and coordination slowly fade for some and drop like a brick for others.  I'll be 65 this fall and I didn't notice the changes much as 60 but this past year I can really feel it.  I tried to shoot a race last night, dropped a lens cap, bent over to pick it up and stood up and my back said "hey pops, never mind the Features, it's time to go home!"  wink

Given there were around 45 and 40 cars respectively on each night I'd say he did pretty damn well to make the A-Main both nights.

Agree 100% percent. He is still making the A mains. He still knows how to race thats for sure. Hes going to be racing Knoxville almost evry weekend next month, that should really help when Nationals time comes. He will the A for Nats again u can bet on that.

Doesn't Kerry's owner own gold mines in Australia?  I'm pretty sure his budget is right there with all the other elite teams.  He was so fast on the starts, but Kemanah was hunting him down both nights.

If I'm not mistaken I think he was in another car for that win?  Tons of respect for Sammy's records and career, but it might be hard for anyone to consistently compete against WoO on a part time basis.

Not being critical, but I don't consider Sammy a sure bet for the Nationals A main.   Racing at Knoxville for awhile may help, but it's obvious he doesn't have a handle on this WoO tire.   Ever since they switched back to Hoosier a couple of years ago Sammy has been less than competitive.   I have no idea what tire NSL runs in either of their divisions, but I'm guessing not the same as the Hoosier the WoO runs.

Every driver has a bad night now and then....some even have slumps, or a collection of tracks where they do better than others. Sammy has historically, been very good at K-ville and Eldora, so if he's a little 'off', it could be attributed to testing set ups or other equipment for Gravel.

I find it ironic that nobody in this entire thread seem to remember about 2 weeks ago, on a Tuesday night, the outlaws converged at I-30 in LIttle Rock, AR. The same ol' man y'all are putting out to pasture, set quick time (Gravel was 2nd quick), won his heat, lost a motor in the dash, started 6th in the A, and within 4 laps, was overtaking 3rd place and was visibly faster than the leaders, until a yellow flag and a sealed over RR bit him.

I wouldn't says he's "done" just quite yet.....

Sammy did win a 360 NSL event a while back....which was not in the Big Game car.....he did however win the Jackson Nationals in the Big Game car last September. I don't think he's forgotten much about piloting a sprint car since then...and you are correct....running against the big dogs on a part time basis would be difficult for anybody. I do think as the season gets going and he's more active, he will get faster and more consistant.

Good point about the tires. Very ironic, considering that he was always complaining (rightfully so) about Goodyears going flat as he was about to win a few big races.

But I'm gonna see him at Knoxville & Des Moines in a few weeks, hoping for the best.... GO Sammy!

I'm going to go out on a limb here.  I am thinking it might have something to do with Sammy pushing 60--which is like 135 in racer years.  ????

Just thinking.  I am having a hard time remembering all of the motorsports legends who made it big in their upper 50's and 60's.  I think the jig is up for 'ol Sam.  Nothing else to really look into here.
