Jonathan Allard races to top 5 at Brownfield Memorial Sprint Challenge

By Gary Thomas

Elma, Wash - September 17, 2007...Former King of California Jonathan Allard battled back for a top five finish Saturday evening at the Grays Harbor Raceway just a night after flipping out of the ballpark at the Elma track. The Chico, CA native made the haul up to Washington on Thursday to compete this past Friday and Saturday nights at the 1st ever Fred Brownfield Memorial Sprint Challenge at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA. For the weekend Jonathan sat aboard the H.A.M Construction, JEI Chassis, Harold Main owned No. 35a.

The Fred Brownfield Memorial Challenge was originally scheduled for July and Jonathan was on the grounds with the Williams Motorsports 0 team, but unusual rainy July weather forced race officials to postpone the event until September. This past weekend saw the weather cooperate and Jonathan took to the track with the rest of the competitors on Friday night to kick off the 1st running of the prestigious event held in honor of the late promoter.

Opening night featured 54 cars in competition and Jonathan qualified 22nd fastest before picking up the win in the evening’s second heat race. JA then started 16th in the feature and battled up to a top 10 spot before contact in the very last set of corners sent him upside down and through the fence in turns three and four. The checkered flag had flown and although Jonathan didn’t cross the line, he was still credited with 10th because there were only 10 cars on the lead lap.

Jonathan and the Main Motorsports team came back on Saturday looking to gain as many points as possible towards an up front starting position for the 40 lap main event. JA qualified a bit back again but was able to bring home a second place finish in the fourth and final heat race. Following heats points were tabulated from the entire weekend to set line-ups for the main events and Jonathan found himself sitting in the 10th position. It gave him a fifth row starting position in the 40 lap Fred Brownfield Memorial Sprint Challenge finale. As the green waved Jonathan was up on the wheel and was able to get the H.A.M Construction, ART Enterprise, Main Motorsports No. 35a up to fifth by the end of the 40 lap contest. The goal for the Brownfield Memorial weekend was definitely to win the event, but scoring a top five after how Friday ended was pretty solid and Jonathan will certainly take it.
