The champ is here! Matt Hein clinches second NSRA championship

Friday night was not Matt Hein's finest night of the season. In fact, for the first time all season he finished outside of the Top 10 in the main event, but he did well enough at Meridian Speedway to secure his second straight Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association championship.

The Roseburg, Oregon driver, piloting the Hein Racing No. 98h Shaver-powered Beast sponsored by Coastline West Insulation, Motor Rebuilders, Tonka Excavation LLC, Long’s Building Supplies, C&R Striping Company and Oregon Tool & Supply, started his Friday night by setting fast time in qualifying around the small, 1/4-mile asphalt oval that is located a short drive west of downtown Boise, Idaho.

Matt had a good start and was running well in the first laps of the main event, but contact with another car sent him spinning around with a flat left rear tire and damage to his car. Ater visiting the pit area, Hein returned to the track and had throttle problems, twice more going to the pit area. It was his worst finish of the season, but it was still enough to clinch the NSRA title.

Complete results for Matt, along with how he does tonight (Saturday) at Meridian Speedway, will be in a later press release. After tonight's finale for the ASA-affiliated NSRA in Idaho, Hein hopes to hop into a dirt sprint car for next Saturday's NorthWest Wingless Tour event at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon. Should his pavement car survive tonight's race at Meridian Speedway, Hein also hopes to venture down to Irwindale Speedway for the USAC Western States race during the annual Turkey Night Grand Prix event on Thanksgiving Day.

At 21 years of age, Matt Hein is one of the top pavement sprint car racers on the west coast, having multiple main event victories to his credit along with the 2008 and 2009 Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association championships. Matt would like to thank all of his sponsors and fans for their great support.
