Red Hot Stewart Rolls to Chico

By PJ Petersen

(Sacramento, CA) At the completion of the 2006 racing season Shane Stewart was unsure what was in store for him for the 2007 season. After beginning the season with Junior Holbrook, he has recently teamed up with Mike Doyle and Paul Silva, and has been on a terror.

The first week of competition saw Shane win three of five races while competing in the Northern Sprint Car Challenge Series' Northwest speedweek. Not only did he claim the speedweek championship he also captured the 360 Nationals at the Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA. This week would be a sign to come, as Shane would go on a terror for the next month and a half.

The next weekend saw Shane put the Doyle's Harley Davidson Maxim in victory lane at the Knoxville Raceway, as he captured the Knoxville 360 Nationals Championship. This race would kick off what he had hoped to be a successful 410 Nationals weekend.

After switching engines Shane and the Screaming Eagles had plans of participating in the Front Row Challenge, but Mother Nature did not allow them to shake down the 410 before the big show. After getting rained out of his original prelim night of Wednesday, Shane got behind the wheel for his qualifying night on Friday where he got hit with bad luck. While running in the fourth position, troubles ensued under the hood of the #1 machine costing him a top five finish. This misshaped forced him to run the "B" feature Saturday night in his last chance to make the Knoxville Nationals. After capturing the B scramble earlier Saturday afternoon, Stewart improved his starting position to fourth, and was able to grab second and start the feature, only to lose another motor while running in the top fifteen.

After Knoxville, Stewart made stops at three ASCS races, where they grabbed three top fives, including one win, before heading back to the west coast, and making a pair of stops at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington. After running sixth in the NSCS 360 race Sunday August 26th, Shane would switch back to the bigger 410 Shaver engine and go to battle with the World Of Outlaws. After starting fourth Shane made a last lap pass over Craig Dollanski and grabbed his second career Outlaw win, as the motor began pouring out smoke the final couple of laps.

This weekend the potent team will bring Doyle's Harley, BR Motorsports, Shaver Powered Maxim to Chico, CA as they set their sites on California Gold as they eye the Gold Cup Race of Champions Championship at Silver Dollar Speedway. Look for the Doyle's Harley Davidson #1 machine to be in action Friday night September 7 as they look to make the show on Saturday night.
