Too late, to many teams have already invested in them. In my opinion they are way over priced.

It is interesting to walk through the pits and see which teams are useing them. Some really fast guys are not. So ya got to wonder if they are worth all the money.

A team with limited resources like crew members and time, the digital bleeders are awesome. A set of diaphram bleeders is still $350 and need to be maintenanced/cleaned pretty much every race. For a one time fee the bleeders are expensive but in a handful of nights you will make your money back not paying a crew guy to spend time to maintenance/keep track of the other styles of bleeders. The crew guy can get to something that will make you money, like preping tires ;-)

Outlaw all bleeders, saves money and time and everyone will be on an equal basis.

Can someone explain the advatage over the Conroy Pneu style bleeders? We run the Conroy Pneu style w/gold bleeders and after an extended green flag run, come in within 1 lb on each side, of what we set at cold air pressures. They work great. Can someone with experiance in both systems, comment on where they saw the differance worth the additional $900 cost? Not saying there isnt any, just curious what they can provide over the sysytem we run now. As far as taking up time.... we clean them every week in the shop, and a quick once over at the track between uses. I cant see where there is a huge savings in maintenance time.

Jeff claims, with video evidence on his website, that the old style bleeders allow much more pressure gain throughout the run than his do.  They don't keep up as well as his does.  He says they may check near what you set them at but that's after they've had time to bleed off some from when the race ended and when you check them in the pits.  His keep the air pressure nearly exactly where you set it the entire run.  He could be right I don't know.  I watched a crew work with some.  They did look easier to set and get more exact than our Conroys.  I didn't ask but assume they work with various weight axles unlike the Conroys which only fit one size but I'm not entirely sure.  I also suppose they run off a battery.

I watched the video on his site.  Says the 2nd bleeder was set at 9, but got up to 12-13.  Looks like the setting on the bleeder is at 12 though???  The left bleeder says 8 on the screen, stayed around 8.  Right pic says 12 on the screen, stayed around 12 after it heated up.  I don't guess I understand where the claimed 9 comes in to play??  The left one had red light any time over 8, as the display is set at.  The right one showed a red light at 12, as the display was set at.  I guess I am not following what the video was supposed to be showing...

I had that same confusion.  Something doesn't look right there.

Yea, I am not sure they watched the video of the 2 before they made what is on the site.  Both bleeders did the exact same thing, +1.5lbs. -.5lbs. of what they look to be set.

I do however question the spikes, seems like they are spiking on tire load which is not a good example of a tire gaining air pressure due to heat.

But I do give them credit for finding another way to build a mouse trap.

the video that shows the bleeder that goes up to 12 pounds of pressure was set at 12 pounds but it had a regular bleeder in the wheel set at 8.5-9 or what ever the other was set at, not sure what kind of bleeder it was so that would make a difference. MoOpenwheel, I'm not directiing this at you, just my general thought... why should they outlaw this bleeder or make it illegal. It seems the only argument is that they are expensive and dont work any better or save more time than the other systems out there.  if we are just making things illegal because they are expensive they should look at the new driveshafts, carbon seats, prototype anything parts, ect.  just my $0.02,

I have seen and worked with the new digital bleeder system and they are very consistent and easy to work with.

if every new part has to "cost the same as an old part" or be banned...why would manufacturers bother to improve anything?

time to get out those dry rotted bias tires...

Yes, no need to even consider banning them unless there were some kind of known failure on the safety side of things. In the grand scheme of things, even at $1,200.00.... thats pocket change in comparison to alot of the other parts/systems on the car.

Its an interesting set up, just not sure I have seen enough to justify replacing the Conroy styles at this point. The video was kind of hard to follow for me as well, especially when it said "compared to a conventional wheel bleeder". In that case, I could see the digital bleeders being obviouly more efficient. I would like to see them compared to the already more efficient Conroy style.... which no doubt already contol pressure way better than the conventional wheel style, for reasons we all already know.

We use the Swindell bleeders and they are awesome.  Takes seconds to adjust the pressure setting on them if you want to raise or lower your bleed off pressure. Almost no maintenance. Plug them into charge and you are good to go. When you order them he asks for axle diameter, they can be run in all axles ( ligh, ultralight etc..) Just my 2 cents

I have seen them in use. Nice product if you can afford it. I have also seen them beat by $20 plug in bleeders and the conroys. I do not see a reason to make them illegal. Your only as good as your driver and your knowledge to use or setup ALL the equipment you have.

With the video, my understanding is that the RH side video has a standard bleeder fitted set at 9 and the pressure reading line from the digital bleeders is plugged giving the reading to show in the video.

Our team has just brought a set to try on our US trip. They should arrive next week. Main reason is accuracy and like someone else mentioned, time saving. I spent a long time getting them right each night when other jobs could have been getting done.

OnTheCushion - Did you find have to change your running pressures? Again, I haven't physically seen a set yet let alone used them but given their accuracy and how quick they bleed we feel we will have to bump the pressures up half a pound.

IE, If the old bleeders were set at 8lbs and come in to the pits at 8lbs, in theory they would probably be running 8.5ish or higher during the race. We feel we will have to set these new bleeders at around 8.5lbs.

Thoughts?

Oh, and on the topic of this post, yes they are dear etc but don't think they should be banned - and thats not just because we have brought some!

Anybody who knows me knows that I've overseen my race teams the last several years with some help from a friend Curtis and my son Asa.

I started working on the Swindell Bleeder over 4 years ago out of necessity because we'd spend way to much time to get the others right and you had to have spares set at different pressures for options and they hardly ever came in on the money.

I've come up with many innovations in racing over the years and never did it to make money, even with all the safety items I passed it all on to other manufacturers to simply get the products out there to try to pass on the knowledge I'd found.

When I got the first bleeder to work I realized it worked so good that most everybody would want them so I went to work on the patents to get them covered before I released them all the while I would sneak it out to the car in my uniform and slide it in the right rear when no one was looking and put the mud cover on it.

After the patents were taken care of I showed them to Sammy and even though I was still having some battery issues he wanted a set and he never took them out.

I finally got 16 sets of some good batteries and released them to a select few late last year to test, and they all actually bought them, they weren't freebies, which is a testament to the product.

I have never said that they will make you win races, if that was the case we would have won every race this year.

What they will do is save you some time because all you have to do is give them a quick charge the day of a race and that is the extent of the maintenance.

They will make your tire wear more consistant due to the pressure staying where you set them thus saving more tires to run at a later race.

They will be more consistant on long runs and you can evaluate your setup with more accuracy because you know that the pressure was right.

I am very proud of my bleeders and very blessed with this product and I will not knock anybody elses because I know now just how hard it is to get a product to market.

As for the video, the setting on the second wheel bleeder was at 9lbs but I had my sensor set at 12 because I really didn't think it would get that high and I didn't want the solenoid energized the entire time. One thing we learned form that was not just how high it got but the fact that within the two minutes it took to get back to the pit the pressure was back down to 9.3lbs where as without the video we would have thought that we were pretty close on the setting.

You can also watch the video of the left and right rear I did of a WoO show with several reds and yellows to see exactly what the pressure loss due to temperature loss is all about on my Facebook page "Swindell Bleeders"

Thanks for letting me clear up a few things.

As for Sopa16, call me anytime day or night and I'll be glad to offer up any information I have to help you make the right choices on your settings.

Jeff Swindell
