Did anyone else pre-order the Dave Argabright autobiography on Doug Wolfgang? I was just wondering if they have started sending them out yet as the release date was suppose to be july 20th. Looking forward to the read.

I pre-ordered it but haven't gotten mine yet. Where did you see a release date though? The only thing I could find on Dave's website is that all pre-orders will be signed by the authors.

Thanks for the inquiry, Paintboss. Lone Wolf has been printed and the books have been at the bindery for about two weeks. They are telling us we'll have them late next week, and we're tentatively scheduled to have Doug come to Indy within a day or so to begin signing the pre-ordered books. If all goes well we should begin shipping books on Monday 8/6 but that's subject to change based on when the binder gets them finished.

It's difficult to set a firm release date during the early stages because once we hand it to the printer it's out of our hands. There are several steps that have to take place and all have the potential to slow it down. That's why our early advertised release dates were just "Summer 2007" until just a few weeks ago when we amended it to Aug. 1 based on the projected date from the bindery. They've taken a few more days than we hoped so that's why it's likely to be 8/6. It's kind of frustrating because I had hoped they'd turn it around quicker but it is what it is at this point.

Believe me, nobody wants them out more than Doug and I! We're pretty anxious, and we would be extremely disappointed if we didn't have them in time for Knoxville. We have three appearances planned (Thurs from 1 to 3 at the NSCHoF & Museum; Thurs. from 3:30 to 5:30 at the Dingus Trailer on the Midway behind the main grandstand; and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dingus Trailer on the Midway) and it would be heartbreaking if we didn't have books.

I'm excited about the book because Doug obviously is a compelling story, and I think readers will learn a whole lot they didn't know. He's an articulate guy and I found him really interesting throughout the process of writing the book.

Thanks for your interest and I hope you enjoy Lone Wolf!

Dave,

Since you are still waiting for the binders to put the book together, would an order placed now still be considered a pre-order?

Fordfan,

Tomorrow's (Friday) orders are considered pre-orders for sure. We had advertised that all orders up to and including 7/27 would be autographed. After that I'm not sure, it depends on exactly when we get books, etc. The folks at Print Communications handle the orders, shipping, processing, etc., and we work with them to try and provide autographs to as many customers as possible. Obviously there is a cutoff point somewhere because of the simple logistics; Doug's in Sioux Falls, I'm in Indy, etc. and we obviously have to be together to sign the books. But they'll always be up-front with callers about whether or not they can expect an autographed book.

Even if someone doesn't make the cutoff on pre-orders, Doug and I plan on doing many appearances together over the next few months. We hope to arrange something at Husets, something in Pa, maybe the Chili Bowl, the Motorsports Expo in New Jersey in Jan, etc. It's fun meeting people and signing their book and personally I like that part of the process a lot.

Thanks!

Dave

Thanks for the update Dave. I'm rooting for the 8-6 ship date, it would be great to dive into this book during the National's.

Sooooooo.....have you decided on your next project? ;)

Jim, thanks for the kind words.

Speedbump, not sure on the next project, I'm talking to a couple of people and I'll know a lot more in the next few weeks. I'm helping to publish a book written by Pat Sullivan about the late Joie Ray and that should be out within the next two months, after that I'm not sure.

I'm thinking about expanding the "Best of Times" series from Sprint Car & Midget Magazine into a book series but I'm trying to gauge if it's a viable project. Lots of people say they enjoy the series in the magazine but I'm not sure that means they'd buy a book. I'd like to try it, though.

See everyone at the Nationals!

Dave,

Thanks for the info. I just finished putting in my order via your web site. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get the Certificate of Authenticity & the tope wing from Doug’s Weikert car to him so he can sign them for me.

Dave, I would buy a book form of "The Best of Times" even if it was just a collection of SC&M's published works. I might not be a fair judge of the marketability though since I will purchase any book you publish regardless of the topic....even non-racing related.

Dave,

I also anxiously await my pre-ordered copy. Hope to see you and Doug either at the Nationals, Husets or the Chili Bowl. Thanks for taking on a project that brings us closer to a true legend. Your writings, be it Sprint Car & Midget magazine or your collection of books is great material. While Chris E. was a great topic, I know that Doug will prove to be an even better one.

Thanks!

Dave-

Thanks for the update, I can hardly wait for the book. I am a big fan of your writing and I was sure a big fan of Doug's Racin'. Keep up the great work.

I put my order in back in June, can't wait to get it!! Dave, I would love to see you and Steve Kinser get together and do a book some day? You putting his career into words would be a best seller!!! When Steve won his last Nationals, and I read your article in Speed Sport News the next week. You put that night into the exact way I felt that night as it took place!! Keep up the good work, love to read anything you write.

Thanks for the kind words and the good feedback. I'll keep the "Best of Times" book idea going and might do some market research on my website soon.

Racenut, I plan on continuing the series in SC&M as long as the readers and Doug Auld would like to continue. It's been a fun project and I'm really enjoying it.

Sprintman, I've talked with Steve Kinser about a book, he's supportive of the idea but we haven't had the timing quite right yet to get started. I think Steve's career would be very interesting in book form. So would Sammy Swindell's, in fact. One problem is that there are lots of interesting people in our sport and it's not possible to do books on everyone.

I'll try to post here next week with an update on the shipping status of Lone Wolf.

Sprintman,

Unfortunately, we've been sold out of Brad's book for almost three years. Wish I had a bunch, I've seen autographed copies (used) going for $100 and up within the last year or so on some out-of-print websites. You might try looking on this used book website (http://www.alibris.com/) every now and then, a copy might pop up for sale. Other than that I don't know anyone who has any.

We've also been sold out of Jack Hewitt's book for quite some time, but we might have located a cache of books that I'm trying to acquire. So we may have a few Hewitt books if everything comes together.

It's very expensive to do a short print run on books, but I'm exploring ways to maybe reprint both Brad and Jack's book. We still get lots of people asking for them and I feel bad when we have to tell folks they're sold out.

If we do a reprint of either book we'll try hard to get the word out to sprint car fans. And thanks again for your interest and your kind words.

Hey writer man, why don't you and Mr. Sullivan write a comedy, Lord knows the fun you guys have had together over the years? An expression comes to mind that you might be able to use, lol. All the best, Take It Easy....

PS I hope you have a truckload of books for the Nationals, Wolfie is still a GOD there......
